Re: XSP vs SPY benefits, 1. Euro expiration (no early assignment) 2. Cash settlement. Therefore, if we have a contract ITM at expiration can we just leave it alone and not be concerned about assignment fees in Trade Station? Thx!
@OptionAlpha12 күн бұрын
Yes you can leave it to expire and cast settle, however there might still be assignment/exercise/settlement fees with your broker. You'd want to check with them.

XSP is also nice for cash settlement of positions. Unfortunate first day for your trade. Do you ever set up for early profit taking or stop loss? With margins that narrow, wouldn't most of those trades look like they'd turn into 0-sum games or flip the expectation into a losing proposition after incorporating commission/fees? Also, do you size these positions using Kelly Criterion or something like that, or just keeping it at single lots for now?
@OptionAlpha12 күн бұрын
For these I don't unless they reach something really high closer to expiration like 90% profit where I can take the short leg off for pennies. Since I trade through TS I don't pay any commissions on these trades so those don't impact the positions. And position sizing I just use 1 lots for now.

I really like the concept you are exploring - how to isolate factors which support more predictable profitability. Does volatility play into the lopsided effect you are capturing?

Vol would play into the fact that we are selling premium vs. buying net.

Great!! Is there a way to make this bot to work with allocation bigger then 3K? Or better to clone multiple instances of it?
@OptionAlpha14 күн бұрын
Yep, you can just move up number of contracts and/or size positions as a % of the bot's net liquid value (or similar) using the bot inputs. Another thing you could do, I believe some people have shared similar templates in the community if you search around, is to add logic to add more than 1 position per ticker. This would help spread positions out over time vs. 1 per month which is the limit given the $3k model.

Bots can currently check for FOMC and CPI. We will get NFP added asap. I appreciate the suggestion! Once I have it added, I'm going to update the WiFly bot skip days where tomorrow has a CPI or NFP report date in the morning.

Hi Jack, I've really been enjoying this series. One of my favorite parts of Option Alpha is the ability to test different ideas, possibly make adjustments or scrap the whole thing long before ever risking a penny. Your Daddy Long Legs strategy is really creative and I'm looking forward to see how it plays out. Its tough to make money trading every day I feel, testing ways to make more on our good days then we lose on our bad ones is the way to go!! I will keep an eye out in the forums for the bot postings, thanks for letting us creep in on your trading journey :)

I just aware a interesting thing about some trading bot from the community, for some reason, those profitable bots are only seeking opportunities from industry ETF such XLU, XLP, EFA or so. In general, these indices are not a good one for options trading, most of them are really low volume or open interest which means opportunities that bots found, could be either not able to open since leak of seller or difficult to close due to no buyer. if a bot is not profitable on paper account, then surely it is no way be profitable in really account. if you found a profitable bot, then congratulations, you find yourself a monopoly game.

Hi Jack can we think of 0DTE Ernie BF where we make 1/10 reward risk ! Establish bais based on tech analysis and we just need movement towards BF. We don't need to pin. Exit based on volume distribution (exit where max trading volume happen) o maximize profit. I don't know how to make this bot. Testing your piggie not!
@billmietelski24 күн бұрын
I would do a search on Ernie Varitimos. There's a trail of lawsuits, bankruptcies, etc. Court records are public info. I'm sure there are two sides to every story, but do your own due diligence. Just sayin'. :)

@@billmietelski thanks for sharing this. Didn't know. His model of working is pay 10K!!
@billmietelski24 күн бұрын
@@ajaygodara3609 Again, do you own due diligence. There are always two (or more) sides to every story, so Ernie might be the real deal. However, I know a successful trader who mentored with Ernie. Said Ernie was a nice guy, but he couldn't make any money trying it Ernie's way. My friend finally came up with his own method, and is now profitable. I'm not saying Ernie is a scam. Never me the man; never tried it his way. But the red flags out there. Just sayin'. Be careful.

Question about pricing options, in your videos from the past you said to multiply the probability of in the money by the spread to figure out the credit you should get and I've done that and when I do that I've never been able to fulfill an order because the price isn't anywhere close to that. So am i doing something wrong?
