I remember watching this on HBO when I was a kid.

This move is legendary since it showed real emigre environment in North Europe, Scandinavia in seventies and eighties. Makavejev painted the love and clash between two cultures and how they malt in tragic outcome. Great movie piece with European perspective.

Saw this Sweden/UK co-production (shot entirely in Sweden) here in Sweden at the movies in 1981 (as 'Montenegro eller Pärlor och svin'/'Montenegro or Pearls and Swines'). Still remember it. Particularly the Yugoslav guy outside Arlanda (Stockholm Airport) with his car full of sheep (!), awaiting someone outside the Arrival Hall, and some bypasser comments: "Nice car!" "Yeah, I got it very sheep/cheap!"...;-) The trailer song is Marianne Faithfull's 1979 comeback version of Shel Silverstein's amazing 'The Ballad of Lucy Jordon', in 1974 a hit for Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show.
