Each idea is presented in a cohesive manner, but the three note gesture becomes quite old to my ear rather quickly.

Until one concert where he thought he was playing the Hammond and accidentally threw the DX7 he was playing out into the 10th row of the stadium

Good transcript, but the photo of The Mothers is not the band that played this; this was written for the 'Zoot Allures' band (Zappa, Eddie Jobson, Patrick O'Hearn, Terry Bozzio) enhanced for the New York shows with Ruth Underwood, The Brecker Bros. and others. Trivia: the first melodic version was written for Jobson to play on violin; you can actually hear the violin quietly behind the marimba on this recording.

I saw ELP perform at Wooster Ohio in 1972. Keith really abused his keyboards during the performance. At one point he laid down on the stage and pulled the keyboard down on top of him, playing it upside down. He could play it while from behind. It was insane and the crowd loved it. Took 3 days to get my hearing back.

Perhaps the origin of the music heard in the spoken word section in "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" and a bit of what would become the composition "Envelopes".

FYI: the Hammond was electro-mechanical. The various key pitches were generated by magnetic tone wheels on a revolving steel shaft, driven by an electric motor and a chain drive. So if you moved the organ, the whole setup would speed up and slow down. And the crashing sound was caused by him banging the spring based reverb inside the organ as well. I own an old Hammond, and the inside is crazy! Full of vacuum tubes, a TON of wires (every key has NINE switches!), and even an oiling system for the mechanical parts.
