Just fyi that first spot you camped at on auxier ridge isn’t legal. You’re within a few feet of an official trail…. 300ft is minimum for DBNF.

hi! how much is the kayak rental? also for the campground?
@SmolderOutdoors
@SmolderOutdoors Жыл бұрын
We stayed at the pinecrest campground. Look them up for current rates. We enjoyed our stay. They had a convenience store with ice and drinks and wood etc. As for the kayak question I’m not sure. We used our own kayaks and didn’t rent any. You can check with one of the outfitters in the area. Typically you want to work with whichever outfitter is located at the place you want to FINISH your trip at. That way you are returning the kayak to the outfitter when you get off the river.

Google current river camping or kayaking. Many places from akers ferry to round springs to camp and rent a kayak from. I've never been to a rental that cared where you got in or out of the river at, as long as it's one of the many launching or departure places on the river.

Love the video! Quick question. Did you shuttle your car to the final spot and then just go drive back to the start and get the other car?
@SmolderOutdoors
@SmolderOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching. We did self shuttle. The first morning we unloaded the boats at Baptist then took both vehicles to the takeout (round spring) we left a pickup truck there then drove back to Baptist. At the end we loaded all 4 boats in the pickup and went back to the start where the other vehicle was. Rivers are a logistical challenge when not using shuttle services. There are vehicle only shuttles available in the area from the outfitters. You can leave them a key and pay for a vehicle only shuttle. While you’re paddling they will come get your car and drive it from the put in to your takeout location.

We did the four pass loop in 2020 and loved it. Also did a 30ish mile loop in the holy cross wilderness in 2021 that is way underrated. That place was epic! And we saw so much wildlife and so few other people. We went multiple days without seeing another hiker. Videos are up of both those hikes too.

Hey Brent - Thinking about doing this exact trip in a couple weeks. Are campsites easy to find? Do you need an overnight parking pass or permit? Water accessible? Assume this area is pretty crowded?
@SmolderOutdoors
@SmolderOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Hey Brian. Campsites are limited on auxier ridge and there is no water up top so carry enough with you. It can be found in the lower section spring/summer but I’m unsure about fall or during periods of low rainfall. Hanson’s point is easy just don’t miss the trail to it. It is an unofficial trail. Hanson’s point is also dry with no water sources up top so again carry in enough for your time there. I’d suggest maps or an app like AllTrails.

Man that looks like a good time on the water for a day flowing. I I'm sorry to hear about you losing your camera. I know that's not how you wanted to get rid of it. I like your kayak you got man. what kind of Wilderness system kayak you got? I Also like your sandals you are wearing. What kind of sandals are you wearing? I would like to get me a pair because I have to kayak barefooted 👣 because I have a very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 sz15 6E wide with very chubby fat wide toes that are Equally straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrow shoe , socks , & boots when I was young & Flip flops 🩴 is the only footwear that will barely and I mean barely fit my foot Because my toes are wider than the flip flops 🩴 straps so I am looking for a pair of sandals to wear in the water. I would really appreciate the information sir. This was a good video man thank you for sharing and I hope you and your wife have a good weekend.

Thanks for watching Mack- in this video I was in a wilderness systems tarpon 120. I really enjoyed the kayak but as I grew deeper into yak camping I ended up selling it and purchased a perception Carolina 12 sit in. No knock to the wilderness systems- they make fantastic boats I just wanted to make the swap to s sit in. As for sandals I have a couple pair. I think these were the Tevas. The others I have are are xero but I’m pretty sure I used the tevas on this trip. They’re my go to sandals.
@mackjenkins7721
@mackjenkins7721 Жыл бұрын
@@SmolderOutdoors oh okay tarpon 120 that's what I have is a tarpon 120 too. That is awesome man. Man I love my tarpon kayak. I clearly understand why you sold your tarpon 120 because I'm getting ready to upgrade my kayak too. I am not going to sale my tarpon am just going to buy the Pongo 125 for kayak camping and use my tarpon 120 for regular kayaking. The reason why I didn't get the sit inside kayak first it's because my foot is so big & very very extremely wide with me having very chubby very fat wide toe that are evenly straight across ( known as box foot which is very rare for feet ) my foot got stuck in a brand new sit inside a kayak and they almost had to call 911 to get my foot cut out of the kayak so I had to go with a sit on top. I have a buddy that does all sorts of welding and we found an old cheap Walmart kayak that was taking on water to practice on how to modify foot space so when I get my panko kayak we know exactly what to do. Oh your sandals those are Teva sandals okay. Those are some really really nice sandals man. When my foot out grow shoes Teva sandals were the only footwear that would fit my foot at the time & i love my Teva at that time man. The only problem that i had was the Footbed didn't last long at all. With in 2 / 3 months of wearing them the footbed had a nice fat very wide worn out smooth 5 toe footprint on the footbed of the sandals. This was back when my foot was 4 1/2 to 5 " inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe but now since my foot is now 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe i still have the same problem with the Footbed not lasting long except it's now only 4 toes that show not 5 toes because both of my little toes hang off the footbed of the sandals or better yet my flip flops but I'm looking for a pair of sandals to wear for kayaking instead of being barefooted 👣 walking across the rocks in the water when the water is shallow. It is starting to take a toll on my feet because I broke both of my feet 2 years ago. Looking forward to seeing your next kayak camping Adventure. Me my family love kayak camping. Me & my family ( wife , 6th boys , granddaughter , daughter in law , & soon to be my newborns grandson when he get bigger ) & family friend we just did a 40 mile kayak camping trip oh what Labor Day Holiday weekend and we had a blast. My lil brother went kayak camping with us for the first time and he really really enjoyed kayak camping and now he wants to buy himself a kayak so he can join the kayak camping adventures with us. Thank you so much sir for replying back I really appreciate that and the information you provided. I apologize for this being long.
