For a small gas powered stump grinder it's not bad at all. It can't compete with a big diesel powered hydraulic grinder, but that things will easily set you back 10 grand. Honestly, your cheapest option for a one time use, just clear the yard of stumps, is going to be hiring a landscaping company to come out and clear them. For a couple stumps, I'd rent this baby.

I'm hoping you'll see after 6 years.I'm wondering how well the Flex has held up.Where I live in a mobile home park this would have been perfect for me.By the time I learned about them they disappeared from the market.

Thank you for this. I have about 8 stumps I need to grind. About 2 are this size the rest are smaller going down to 6 inches. I know it would cost alot to pay somebody. Home Depot rents these for 170 for the day. I want to give it a shot.

Excellent video! This is exactly the video I was looking for. Someone who knows the machine and how to operate it. No drama just how to do the job and how long it took them. You've got a new subscriber!

For what it’s worth, we rented one this size for $86, the self propelled model was $114. If I could do it over I would op for the self propelled model

Thank you for a very informative video. I have many oak stumps where I had cut the dead tree and left about 6 inches above ground. I am thinking of renting a stump grinder and need your advice on how to check the rental machine that I don't get a blunt machine that will take hours to grind through a stump.

Do you have any luck finding FLEX Accessories anymore? I was an early adopter, actually the first person in our area to purchase one from any of the Lowes within 100 miles. I now have 2 power bases, 2 mower decks, snow blower, aerator, dethatcher and pressure washer. I'm really interested in the chipper and possibly the blower, but missed them a few years ago when Troy-Bilt clearanced them off of their website. Due to weight, it doesn't make a lot of sense to ship these, so looking for something on the East Coast within a few hours of Southwestern VA, but I know that's optimistic. Thanks in advance for your reply...

I have the same machine. It’s gotta be at least 30 years old and still runs great. I’ve sharpened the knives on it many many times although I do use a disc sander with my bare hands and I dunk it and water to make sure it doesn’t heat up too much. Take care of this machine and it will take care of you. Nice video thank you.

This one works much better than the Home Depot Toro rental option, it took me about an hour per stump, I had 5 to do they were about 14" in diameter.

I realize this is an older video but had to point out that there are different model tomahawks. My brother in laws is nothing like this model and the blades are completely different and can not be sharpened and the parts needed are no longer available.

Saw a comment on another video that was saying these little stump grinders are too small for anything bigger than 4” diameter. Thanks for the regular speed video showing it getting that 27” done in 13 min. I have a massive mess of trunk and root system from an old oak in the middle of my lawn to smooth down and I’m now convinced this will be the best tool for the job.

Watch Scanner guy 1968 and he will show you how to Super Tune it. Plus this is an 8 year old so you should have learned how to get 10 to 12 inches. Don't care what the manual says. Ground balance it outside bring it inside and and air test it supertuned

Thank you for this video, i was curious how a rental quality machine would work. I have some very large stumps to get rid of and was curious if my body can make it through all of them in a single day (12 stumps ranging from 20 inches to a big 25x40 that had 3 trees in 1.

For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

Spent 450 today for 3 stumps. Best money ever spent. Watching rental videos and doing research is a waste of time. Just hire someone with the right equipment. I understand doing it yourself to save a few bucks. But sometimes it is best to hire someone. As good as your grinder is. Unfortunately it wouldn't work for me.
