buy 8 foot post sleeves and cut in half for stairs

Good recovery. In big box stores most sleeves are 39 or 40 inches tall. Without your extension how high is the post above the step boards?

I'm not 'there', so I can't say for sure, but generally speaking I keep my posts in the same relative position to the riser all the way through the stair set. As I say, I can't swear this would have changed things for you enough, and I have not used pre-made jackets like these myself, but moving the post to the nose position like the top one would have given you some more length by letting the rail slope come to it... not sure I'm making it clear enough, but length is relative to the slope, so it's kind of important to remain consistent in your placement from start to finish. So, if you took your 'short' post and moved it forward, or moved it up to the next step and forward, it is longer relative to the rail slope. Pre-made stuff is tricky, I think. Have to 'play' a bit before you get excited with the fasteners. :) When I'm in doubt, which is a lot since the details are often varied, I leave the post long until I've figured it out.

Thanks for advice. What you said makes sense about moving the post forward on the step. I watched a video that indicated that too. I was going to do that but when I added the post sleeve and the skirt molding at the bottom, it would have hung over the step, so I decided to pull it back further. Perhaps too far. I guess I didn't realize this was a game of inches. Next time (if I ever try this again), I think I'll take your advice and just leave the posts as long as I can until 'after' I connect the railing!

Similar thing just happened to me though i was not using the stock firmware. The two weeks leading up to, we were experiencing random WIFI drops and couldn't quite figure out why. I had this bridged with a Verizon router so I was able to get a new router stood up fairly quickly and we haven't had a single wifi drop on the new router. In any case, I think this is called a "hard brick" situation whereas soft brick's can be recovered through a tftp server hooked up to the router, this one does not seem to be able to do that. If you're feeling venturous, you can open it up and connect a serial cable to the motherboard to see exactly what's going on. However, the general consensus is time to get a new router.

Hold in the paperclip BEFORE turning the router one. That got mine to reset.

Ive had two seperate Orbi routers brick themselves. After many years its time to move on. Too unreliable. Dont buy.

I'm done with Orbi and Netgear now. My router is doing the same thing. It doesn't reset anymore - just a green light on all the time. I'm fairly certain the unit is bricked. I wonder if it had something to do with me regularly updating the parental controls on it, but I have no idea. I'm going to try TPLink or Asus brands instead. Hopefully they are a bit more reliable than this $500 paperweight.

Nope, sorry. You could try Kevin’s suggestion and unplug it, then plug in while holding in the reset button. It didn’t work for me, but maybe you’ll have better luck. In the end, I just bought a different router.

Same here, my RBR50 malfunctioned and the power green light is always on which could not be factory reset. Tried other methods, like TFTP firmware upload without success. Next step, buy a different brand mesh router. Will never buy Netgear products again.

@@cjc436 mine did it a few days ago as well... annoying as I had 3 sattelites hanging off it. Managed to get a user RBK852 for a decent price but signal is weak in my garage but I can't justify an extra RBS850 satellite. I might try an old router in AP mode just for the stuff out there.

same here... started doing this after a reboot on new years eve.... had a mad panic to get my ISP's router back in to router mode rather than modem mode until I could get a replacement Orbi - any issues with this one and I'll be changing to a different product
@hamajangz9586 Жыл бұрын
I eventually went on ebay and bought a used one for like 35 bucks. It didn't have the power cord but I just used the plug from the dead router. That was last February and it's still working. For how long? Who knows but they're pretty cheap on ebay so I'll just get another one when this one goes down
@kevinwazette51562 жыл бұрын
I just went through this frustrating exercise. My Orbi was not connecting to my app and had to do the factory reset. If the light doesn't turn orange, unplug the ORBI device. While holding the reset button with a pin, plug the ORBI device back in. You should see the orange light come on and flash. It worked for me.
