Well, I learnt the error of my ways as soon as I first set up my tent and hosed it down to test for any leaks due to possible manufacturing faults before I went out on my first camping trip. It is easy to spot that this is not the way to use the tarp. But you are correct, as soon as I got to my camping ground, most did it this way and I believe the reason they did it is because this was their very first time camping and they had not tested their tent the way I did. I would hope that most would learn from the first time it rained. Also, I don't use tarp anymore. I use folded shade cloth because it allows the earth to breathe under all that nylon. Breathability and protection all in one.

Thanks Mike -- it's the end of 2024 and I just got the 1000 (because the 1100 is out now and B&H is selling the 1000 at $300 off list). Got it all set up and ready to go. Going to go for my first print once the 17 X 22 paper arrives. I'm really familiar with the LrC print module so I'm glad to see you were using that instead of the Canon print s/w that's downloadable. Nothing wrong with the Canon s/w and I may try it later but out the gate I plan on standardizing with the LrC print module. Great video, mate -- thanks!

nice gear loadout! I've hiked all of the ADK high peaks and more... My opinion will be for new hikers since you probably made a lot of modifications in the last couple years. But the Sawyer mini filter is terrible lol, the sleeping pad is too heavy, the knife is too big, sharpener not required for 3 days, wire saw nope and too many powerbanks. I hiked the full Foothills trail 77 miles with a 20000mah (with camera gear). I know this video is 4 y.o and i'm not saying the gear was bad....I'm simply giving tips on how to make your pack lighter by not packing your fear...which you know and probably did change a lot of these items :) Still, great video and hope you had a great time of the mountains... they are amazing mountains. Take care.

I have to smoke in my All Wooden shed that is easily 30 feet by 20 feet and is about as tall as my one story trailer home. I just bought this thing today and literally have not even put it together. First I want to ask, can I have candles for light at the same time as using this thing? Second I want to know if I should leave one of the doors open for ventilation? And lastly, is the CO going to kill me if I am in the shed with the doors closed?
@MikeWilleyАй бұрын
I wouldn't use candles (with real fire) in any roof top tent ever. Leaving a door open is unnecessary. The CO will not become dangerous in a small environment like a shed however I'd suggest making sure you have a alarm detector whenevery you're using it anywhere other than outside.

All fuel based heaters will have some smell but I completely understand. I find it hilarious when people spend hundreds to get the lightest possible tent, and then carry a plain old heavy tarp like this to protect that fragile super light floor, negativing that weight advantage. Manufacturers will do this because weight is in easy spec to list while durability is not a number. So they figured out, people will stupidly spend much more for low weight, and then they sell an additional tarp, to these same people for even more cost. It's absurd and silly.
@MikeWilleyАй бұрын
I get it for sure but the main point is to tuck the edges up under the tent. Switch to hammock camping, and forget it all. 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for watching.

A jeep hardtop can only hold 150 lbs total - that's the published max limit. The Exposed Racks can hold "Designed to hold 2-3 people plus tent. (or vehicle max limit)" ... pay special attention to the part in brackets.
@MikeWilleyАй бұрын
Thats a point load weight rating .Thats the intent of the feet on the support bars. It spreads the load into many points. Its been installed for a couple years and the only issue with the whole setup is a small piece of paint that chipped off the iKamper framing. Thanks for watching.
@MactacFPVАй бұрын
@@MikeWilley The roof is fiberglass and the vehicle max limit for a jeep roof is definitely no point load. Jeep is pretty clear about what the roof will hold, and I've spoken with numerous RTT manufacturers who all say that a RTT needs something more than the stock roof. You are free to do what you want of course, however I strongly recommend that people do not put a RTT on a stock Jeep roof. If you do some research, you will find that this is generally the accepted answer.
@MikeWilleyАй бұрын
I did a lot of research to find the rack. Rack ratings are generally the issue when it comes to using the gutter on jeep hardtops. Thats why I went with this rack I did. (it wasn't easy to find one that met the ratings required) This rack spreads the point load out uniformly across the top. Static (not moving) load for a Jeep JL 2019 or newer is about 800 lbs. I think you may be referring to the dynamic load rating which is 264 lbs. Dynamic means while the jeep is moving. Bottom line, my setup up is working exactly as I projected it would after doing all my research through the specific manufacturers I bought product from, including Jeep. Dozens of trips and 20,000 or more miles.

Either way, I'm always prepared to navigate on my own. The point was for viewers to be ready to navigate themselves without the markings as well.
