Great info! I also grow cattleyas indoor but I use plastic pots with holes, not mounted nor hanged. I placed them on top of an orchid tray with water underneath for added humidity. I only water them once a week. They bloom multiple times during the year and the same goes for 4 vandas I have. I utilize grow lights daily from 0730- 1730, a paramount importance.

I love the tree display. Will try that. Did you plant the SOH strands into the base of the tree? I love SOH, but over time, I dislike how the top gets so bald and the leaves at the ends of the strands get tiny.

If you don’t want roots to travel through drainage holes, you can put mesh squares over the drainage holes of the pot. Just be sure the squares are made of plastic or nylon. They usually sell them pre-fab in bonsai supplies.
@1000and1plant15 күн бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! I haven’t tried using mesh over the drainage holes yet, but I’ll definitely consider it. I've noticed that anything I place at the bottom, the roots eventually pull it into the soil. For example, I use pine cones as drainage, and after 2-3 years, the roots pull them in so much that I have a hard time removing them during repotting. Do you think the same could happen with the mesh?
@plantsdogdogtortoise15 күн бұрын
@ you can either super glue or wire it to the drainage holes.

Hello! Thank you for your video. My monstera's variegated sections are turning brown. What would you suggest? Have you ever experienced this problem, and how did you manage it? Thank you! Your plant is just gorgeous!
@1000and1plant26 күн бұрын
Hello! Thank you for your question. Yes, I’ve experienced this issue with variegated plants, and here’s what I’ve learned: Brown spots often appear on leaves with very strong variegation, especially where the white (chlorophyll-free) sections dominate. These parts rely on the green (chlorophyll-containing) sections for energy since they can’t photosynthesize on their own. This is particularly challenging in winter, when shorter days and a plant’s natural dormancy reduce its growth and energy distribution. To help your monstera, consider these tips: Provide a quality grow light: Use a full-spectrum grow light for about 12 hours daily. This can encourage growth and improve energy supply to the white sections. Trim brown spots carefully: If the brown areas don’t drastically affect the leaf’s overall appearance, you can cut them off to maintain the plant’s look. Foliar feeding: Spray the leaves with a diluted fertilizer solution occasionally. I also like to use chamomile tea (cooled) to mist both sides of the leaves, which can be soothing. Once a month, I mist the leaves with a baking soda solution (1 teaspoon per liter of water) to support their health. I hope this helps your monstera thrive! Let me know if you need more advice. 😊

Brand PDGROW, This LED grow lamp bulb uses 36 high-quality Sam LM301B LEDs, provides powerful light output and even penetration of the canopy to achieve maximum higher yields, much better than conventional 150 W HPS breeding systems. Can replace the HPS 200 watts & the fake 300 watt blurple grow lamp well, but only consumes 36 watts.

@@PinkUrbanOasis II’m so happy to hear you got your Monstera! 😊 I spray the underside of the leaves twice a month as a preventive measure against fungal diseases and brown spots. I either use chamomile tea or a mild baking soda solution. Give your Monstera about two months to adjust to your environment. As soon as you see a new leaf appear, you can count that the process of leaf size increase has begun! By February, she’ll definitely surprise you with growth. Wishing you lots of happy growth with your Monstera!

How old is your plant?
@1000and1plant3 ай бұрын
I bought this Monstera with three leaves in January 2023. I think it was a top cutting from a fairly mature plant, so it's hard to say how old it was. But I've had this Monstera for one year and 10 months. I know this for sure because I have photos from right after I bought it and when the new leaf started growing. It currently has 13 leaves and is getting ready for its second winter.

If each new leaf of the Monstera is larger than the previous one, it's a good sign that the plant is happy. You are doing everything right. Additional lighting is very important for variegated plants. They can't be lacking in anything, as it immediately and irreversibly affects the quality of the leaves. Sometimes, they simply don't develop, leaving a gap on the stem.
@1000and1plant3 ай бұрын
Yes, but my grow light has a timer with only two options: 6 or 12 hours. After reading your comment, I went ahead and switched it to 12 hours. You can never give a Monstera too much light! 😅💡💰

@@1000and1plant one of mine has a 3, 9, 12 timer and the other one doesn’t have a timer. I usually just keep them set to 12 hours 🤷🏻♀️ I’m looking at getting a different kind of grow light for my monstera and white and pink princesses. As absolutely gorgeous and special the pure white leaves are, its not sustainable for the plant and won't be able to photosynthesize because of lack of chlorophyll in the leaves. Its best to try cut back until the new buds/leaves have more green in them. Otherwise the plant will unfortunately die from it's own beauty 😅 as long as one leaf is still mostly green, the plant can continue to live and will eventually throw out more green if the all pure white ones are chopped 😎
@1000and1plant3 ай бұрын
I completely agree with every word. After the fourth completely white leaf grew and withered, I pruned the Monstera back to the leaf with a green part. A month later, a replacement side shoot appeared, but again with minimal green. I decided not to continue experimenting and removed the plant, as I consider it non-viable and see no point in trying to nurse it or propagate it.

@@dpilotnyc7621 I understand you like no one else. I once had a mature, beautifully variegated Monstera deliciosa that I decided to propagate into single-node cuttings, and each cutting behaved differently. I kept three for myself, and they’ve now grown into 1.5-meter-long vines. But only one of them truly impresses me-it has stable growth with a beautiful 50/50 balance of chlorophyll and variegation in the leaves. The other two tend toward mostly white leaves. Unfortunately, I had to toss two other cuttings because they grew as albinos, no matter what I tried. It’s truly like a lottery-no one can know what kind of cutting they’re buying. But maybe next time, you’ll get lucky with a successful cutting!

Нет она на ручном поливе, причем заливаю сразу лейку литровую. Я думаю, что там корни уже вместо фитиля повылазили из отверстий в дней и пьют из кашпо. Я забыла проверить и показать, что там твориться.
