My vehicles are well maintained and I have over 100k km of caravan towing experience so I thought I would put together a video for other travellers that may be wondering how challenging the road between Bright and Omeo might be. How on earth did you manage a 3,000kg load with the ranger… wow
@DetectorooAdventures8 ай бұрын
It did it pretty easily actually. The road design was done quite well such that there are only a couple of 1st gear hairpin bends. For the most part it is a steady incline and the Ranger was able to climb the hill in 3rd gear with a bit of 2nd and at times some 4th.
@petersuvara8 ай бұрын
@@DetectorooAdventures still think I'll stick with a 2500kg caravan :)
@DetectorooAdventures8 ай бұрын
@@petersuvara No worries and happy travels. Most folks are concerned about getting up the hill but it is really important to control your speed on the descent - if the brakes get too hot their effectiveness fades. It is not a nice feeling to press hard on the pedal and you don't slow down as quickly as you are used to! Engine braking helps a lot.
@donflint94368 ай бұрын
In terms of brake fade and engine braking it sounds like it might be better to do the steeper climb and gradual descent than a gradual climb and steep descent in the opposite direction (when towing)?
@DetectorooAdventures8 ай бұрын
I don't think going up one way and down another will make much difference. Just need to take it slow and steady both up and down and you should be ok.

Hi, Great video, just wondering if it’s safe to tow a caravan the opposite way, from Omeo to Harriettville?
@DetectorooAdventures11 ай бұрын
Pretty much the same I think. A few more slow bends on the way down to Harriettville. Just need to let the engine & transmission help the brakes to avoid them getting too hot and fading.
