Derian Hatcher told a story to Ludwig about how Gainey was working with Jamie Langenbrunner when Jamie was a rookie.. Bob invited him out for a beer and then sat there reading a newspaper the entire time! 🤣

im not sure that i see his nhl career as hof, that being said, his overall impact not just to hockey but to sports as a whole is huge. and for the record i hate scott stevens. still. but nonetheless the legion of doom was must see tv and eric was also while in the orange and black.

Igor Larionov is a legend. His life-long journey as a hockey player and as a man I found to be absolutely extraordinary. It's an epic. I learned of much of it from the great hockey book "The Russian Five". He was basically the Russian Gretzky of the 80's KLM line. Tremendous vision and hockey IQ. He payed tremendous dues in the old Soviet system from his childhood until they finally released him when he was 30. They taxed his NHL salary for several years, which they couldn't do with the 2nd wave of straight defectors. Finally earned his financial freedom and then was the cornerstone of the remarkable puck-possession "Russian Five" lines in San Jose and then Detroit. Played at a high level well into his 40's. A humble, modest, intelligent, insightful, family man of the utmost integrity. He got the respect of everyone he ever came across.

While this is a place for celebration, I'll flat out say that this is a *very* questionable induction. He won little, including individual accolades. He had one 100 point season, his only hitting even 90 points. A poor version of a compiler. Imagine some people were sour about Andreychuk. At least he had two 50 goal seasons and ended with a whopping 640 in total. He also held the record for most power play goals in history when he was inducted. Seems like a simple ''good guy'' pick for someone why was on the outside looking in. I still remember him purposely hitting Niedermayer with a slap shot to end a period back in the day. Honestly one of the most cowardly things I've ever seen in sports.

Brett Hull said this about Chris; won three Norris trophies and three Stanley Cups. Always played great for the US national team. Loved him as a red wing, he was the second best defenseman behind Lidström and no shame in that.

2-time Lady Byng winner (League's Most Gentlemanly Player combined with a high-standard of play). A nice trophy you can give a guy that's not winning the Hart or the Art Ross that year but is a highly-skilled player with great numbers, plays the game game clean and is very classy off the ice.
