The bass line sounds different when the kick is applied. The first two notes of every beat have disappeared. Are you side chaining the bass from the kick? If so how?

Yes, the bassline is being sidechain compressed. I dont remember exactly how i did it on this one. You have to use a compressor that has sidechain capabilities. I use fabfilters pro-c2. Sidechain the kick into the bass buss and within the compressor adjust the attack and release parameters to get the pumping effect

theres a million an one ways to record. this is just my way of doing it, because it allows me to retain a unaffected "clean" recording for future use or remixing. doing a post buss also allows me to get a better vu reading and how all the fx are truly affecting volume levels. hope that helps

Is FL studio a easier DAW for darkwave? I was thinking if using Ableton live or does it matter what DAW you use ?

I hear good things about Abelton. Ive only used it very little and saw no point in dropping FL Studio for it. Im die hard FL Studio user. Its just whatever works for you i supposed. Fl studio is a lot more user friendly i think, compared to other DAWs
