Couchsurfing probably had a bigger impact on my life than any other website in my 20s. It played a massive part in my social life when I lived abroad, and the people I met ultimately influenced my career. Around that time (early 2010s) there was a lot of discussion about how its longtime users disliked its corporate shift, with a few migrating to BeWelcome. Ultimately, Couchsurfing became so popular and widespread (a good thing) that it could no longer be run by just volunteers. It was always going to end like this.

Sometimes people isolate, and target Chick-fil-A over all of the rest of the fast food restaurants because of the Christian faith of the founder, and some of it's employees, and are looking for any reason to scoff at believers. But this view is a little bit myopic because what you're pointing out is definitely a real problem, and it does deserve some thoughtful consideration, however: the problem is wider, bigger, and systemic, because first of all, nobody goes into business to fail, and lose money, and so to be successful in the food processing - food service industry they are doing what they deem as necessary to not only be competitive, but to excel in this field. The stuff they use is FDA approved, so this is why I say that the whole system has to be changed.

It's unfortunate that so many believe Couchsurfing has become some sort of dangerous platform. In my opinion it's still very much worth the little fee! I've been surfing with over 70 hosts in 19 countries and hosted over 75 people from 34 countries. I made new friends and had unforgettable experiences. As I always say; listen to your instincts, if it doesn't feel right, go away and stay somewhere else. I still encourage people to use this beautiful platform!

Nothing good and no reason for MSG other than to trick your brain and increase dopamine to crave the more. Maybe they don't have enough confidence that the way Mr Cathy originally prepared the food doesn't taste so good? How about aluminum preservatives and the same ingredients that are in silly putty? Did Mr Cathy use those chemicals and crap in his original recipe? Do you use that at home when you prepare chicken? Do you use 3 types of bad oil to fry? The proof is in their success. I think that many people who criticized them, weren't customers anyways. When it comes to fast food, you aren't going to have a bad experience with the employees at a chick fil a. The Christian structure of the company doesn't want a-holes or attitudes dealing with the customers. Some places will have fist fights between employees and customers. (probably a matter of location) If you like it, you eat there. If you don't eat there, your opinion doesn't affect the company whatsoever.

It’s rich hearing Christians tell people that no one can tell someone how to think. That’s kinda their whole thing. But, you are right, we are all free to think whatever we want. I don’t think I will spend my money with a business that goes out of its way to destroy families it doesn’t like the thought of. I have no problem with them doing their cult thing at the restaurant. They do make excellent chicken and deliver exceptional service. Sure, it’s like eating at a weird vacation bible school, but as long as people aren’t getting hurt and they stay in their lane, it’s all fine with me. But when any company decides that “it” believes things and is “called” to get laws written about how people are allowed to love and live their lives, I’m out - and I am free to say why.

So if you go to your Doctor and he says " If you don't stop xxxx you are going to die very early." Where xxx is something like smoking, eating too much, taking drugs, drinking alcohol, etc are you going to say the Doctor is telling you how to think? No, that's them given their opinion on your bodily health. When Christian do it, they are giving advice on your spiritual health. If you are a person who does not believe you have a spirit (soul) then you can simply ignore the advice, but it doesn't mean Christians are trying to tell you how to think. Think of Christian as Spiritual Doctors. They are doing just what your bodily doctor does, but for your soul, not your body. Christians believe God gave you free will. You have the choice of accepting him or rejecting him. If you accept him, other Christians are there to help you (it's a transition.) If you reject him, then you have nothing to fear from Christians and can peacefully ignore us.@@hamhouke

During all those years I was ganged up on by a certain group of Western users just because I was different. And finally the gang succeeded in kicking me out of CS. The current CS administration appoints these gangsters as group admins to weed out users like me who are different to European or Western school of thought. The CS administration listens to those gangster group admins to keep Europe and the west happy in order to squeeze out money from the west. What is painful for me is that they are holding back my profile and all those memories I managed to gather in those 10 years.

@@billbradley5296 You are confusing two separate issues, Bill. The reasonable subscriptions charges, without which you cannot use CS, are not the same as a "verification fee". You can participate fully without the need to get verified. Like the overwhelming majority of members, I'm not verified. It's never held me back as a host or a guest. If members are uber-cautious they can easily arrange their own ID checks. FWIW hosts can 'earn' verified status with confirmed stays/references. Just to correct the facts given here regarding the origins of Couchsurfing. Couchsurfing did not arise 'sui generis' with some guy's light-bulb moment. It is a carbon copy of Hospitality Club its less glossy European predecessor now sadly defunct .It was squeezed out by CS. In turn HC was modelled on SERVAS set up to improve international relations among civil servants in the aftermath of WWII. That was a pen and ink operation! I understand folks' reservations about its transition to corporate status. I ditched it for 10 years as a result. However I am back with it now. Why? In travelling in over 100 countries, many of them through CS and HC, I can honestly say that my best most authentic experiences have been through these organisations. I call it three-dimensional travel! Is Couchsurfing perfect? It ain't! Are there alternatives? Yes, BeWelcome to name but one. I intend to continue travelling this way until the Grim Reaper calls.....Happy trails all! 😀😀😀
