Lauren D. Tamayo ...Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. A couple years ago we had a drought and a lot of hot days and I ventured out onto prairies and didn't see many monarchs or other butterflies, bees etc... However, last season though we had a late spring in my region there were "a lot of monarchs" at times on prairies I ventured out onto. Habitat and weather has an effect on things too. Having flowers for them is important also if you can plant milkweed for the monarch caterpillars that too helps. Thanks for your comment and watching.

I just "discovered" this interesting little bird this evening. It was darting around in my large spruce trees and I could barely keep up to it with my binoculars....I could just see flashes of orange and didn't know what it was. I finally found it in a bird book and came here looking for videos to verify. Your video is very good! What area are you from? I'm in north western Saskatchewan, Canada. I assume they are just passing through but maybe I'll be lucky and they will nest here.
@danw.andree86614 жыл бұрын
John Doe thanks for watching and your comment. Redstarts can be difficult to keep up with. I am not sure if they nest in your area or not. I'm mainly familiar with them in my area, Minnesota.

I am experiencing the joy of this little bird that arrived in my backyard this month. I lure him in with my Merlin bird call. He has flown so close to me many times. He only responds back with a certain song. I finally got a couple of shots within 2 feet of me. He was so curious.
@danw.andree86614 жыл бұрын
Janette Orto - I enjoyed reading your comment. Redstarts will come close at times. I have had them drop down below by my feet but still hard to photograph or film at times because they are so quick and unpredictable. Males become quite vocal when setting up their territories and use different sounds to communicate to their mate. Interesting and fun little bird. Thanks for the comment.

where the adult bird is transporting the poop to? they aren't dropping it just over the edge. is that for security reasons? i.e., not to make any unnecessary attention ... also the consistency of the poop is amazing.
@danw.andree86615 жыл бұрын
think twice ...From what I have observed they transport it a distance away from the nest. It also keeps the nest area clean and not to draw any attention to the area from predators. Also it seemed to be encased in a thin transparent membrane which makes it easier for the adults to remove. I have also observed an adult female remove an egg shell right after one hatched. Thank you for your comment and watching.

In most cases when I first see a Viceroy butterfly I initially mistake it for a Monarch, not just because of how it looks, but because Monarchs are a lot more common in my area; Viceroys are one of the rare butterflies around here, and it's always nice to see one. (Once I or the butterfly gets closer I'd see how it's smaller and flies differently.)

OMG! It's a nice film, but spiders still give me the creeps! Thank you for the education about this particular spider. Just watching that makes me think their lives seem so isolated and boring. They would probably say the same about us!
@danw.andree86618 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. Maybe they would tell us we need to slow down a little and get to know some thing or some one first before assuming the negative. From what I understand they live short lives. They mate and the male often dies not long afterwards. The female lays her eggs in an egg sac in the fall and then to dies. The eggs winter over in the egg sac and hatch in the spring or at least when warm enough. Young spiders fend for themselves I guess. I am no expert in this area this is just some info I found. In other areas their lives may be different or even longer I do not know an expert in the field would. While they may look a little creepy crawly to some - I like them knowing they are not going to jump off their web and bite me. They really didn't pay much attention to me while observing or filming them. This particular spider has beautiful markings and is harmless. They have their place in the natural web of life.

Thanks for watching and commenting, Donna. I really appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed the video. I do put some time and effort into them and it is nice to know it is appreciated and enjoyed. It can be quite a challenge trying to capture subjects that are very unpredictable even wary of people. I do feel pretty comfortable out in nature since venturing out even when I was a small boy. One does have to be aware of certain thing while out in some areas and over time have learned a lot. Overall I would say nature has been good to me and I hope to share that part with viewers.

It's remarkable to me that you can get close enough to get such great shots without scaring the birds.
@danw.andree86618 жыл бұрын
Some species of birds etc. are more accepting than others of humans. I think certain ones got use to me and some maybe thought I was just another thing or creature in their habitat. Some were more wary. Birds in the woods are more on the alert. At watering holes particularly due to predators I imagine. American redstarts got so use to me when I entered their territory like...oh it's just that human again. Not threatened at all. Maybe being quiet as I could and just kind of fitting into the woodlands etc. Fawns had approached me quite close at times as well. I think some birds and woodland creatures sensed I was no threat to them.
@LiveStreamingAtlanta8 жыл бұрын
I guess you have to develop that skill or you could never get such great shots.
@danw.andree86618 жыл бұрын
I would agree. Always having an interest in nature and cameras I taught myself how to use cameras & camcorders - got to know the subjects and areas I found interesting and worked at figuring out how to photograph and film them to the best of my ability. Being self- taught I guess I just tried to figure out how to get the best results from the equipment I had to work with. Hopefully doing the subject/s some justice. The results were important to me because I feel are not only a reflection on me but the subject or subjects portrayed. I feel very comfortable out in the natural world. My senses in areas have sharpened. Learning to identify sounds over seeing a certain bird, animal etc. in dense woods my hearing senses became more in tune to several different sounds some may not notice at first. Fortunately a wooded river is only a couple miles from me and made trips to that river and woods with only sometimes a few hours to spare quick to get to. I guess you could throw passion and the love of nature in there somewhere to.
