Hello, love all your insight. I am struggling right now. I have six years experience, as a Middle School Educator, focused on STEM/Science. I have a Masters in Education, Generalist, with certification and I am also working towards learning more in STEM/STEAM, to bring to my students, peers and school. Last semester, I was involved in an incident on campus. Let's say I was injured and it snowballed into a living nightmare for me.- lots of hoops to jump through, and that is putting it lightly. I have PTSD and trauma from the event. I cannot go back into a contained classroom. I would love to get into tech education but how do I explain why I abruptly left my classroom? Thank you.

What is the average pay for working in this field or with these companies?

Do these companies require you to have taught for a certain amount of time? It's only my second year but I can tell this isn't what I want to do.

Hi Carrie, I am looking to break into ed tech. I am very interested in what you have to share. I am a certified reading teacher and elementary school teacher with years of experience. I have been researching ed tech companies such as: Newsela, Schoology and other literacy based software companies. I also have a background in sales as well. Unfortunately, I am 60 years old and I wonder if ageism exists and do I even stand a chance. I believe I have the experience, and the passion to make a difference. Thanks for any advice

Thank you for explaining the issues around transition. I am a university teacher in India and looking for opportunities to move out , but haven't been able to figure out where i can fit and also lacked the courage to make the transition.

That was my number, too. I came to education as a second career. Most stories on YT are about teachers who leave in the first year or two. The middle number like yours is rare. You made the right choice!

I gave myself permission to transition. I tried to stay and found that what I wanted was not available. I am thankful for the opportunity to grow and achieve. I am encouraged to develop, learn, and am given opportunities to succeed in ways I never expected. You are right, Carrie, you will know when it is time. I was told this in a teacher leader program too. Denying that will lead to frustration. If you have those thoughts, start exploring, you are worth it!

There are many companies that value educators. The key is to learn about them, their industry, and show your ability to assimilate. If given a performance task, consult with someone AFTER you do the work or reach out to Carrie for a professional consultation. She shared honest advice that helped me make a big impact during my performance presentation interview!
