If you love some drama I highly recommend anything by Thomas Hardy (especially Far From the Madding Crowd), though he get laborious; A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa Alcott, Howard's End by EM Forster, Basil by Wilkie Collins, and Miss or Mrs by Wilkie Collins. In fact, Wilkie Collins basically invented what became known as the "sensation" genre which was characterized by everything starting with a happy family that then gets decimated by drama and scandal. Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is my all time favorite book… And JCC books especially Family is my second favorite … I was profoundly moved by both of these books and I read them decades ago…

I agree on Carolina Built. Great story, but the “umph” was missing. I LOVED Praise Song for the Butterflies. So heartbreaking. I am a huge BLM fan. She is such a fantastic writer. I am excited to read her new book next year.

I eat while I read all the time. I agree with not having to read every day. I participate in reading sprints sometimes on IG and it does help to get a few pages in at a time. Congrats on 3K
