I have seen a dozen different ways to tie this knot ! ... THIS is the first i have tried that does not break at less than half the breaking strain of the line ?????

To me this would make more sense if the hooks were tied to the float so that the bait comes off the bottom when the float does. As it is, I worry that the bait would simply rest on bottom

Sorry that's the stupidest way to tie it I've ever seen. Thread the tag end through the eye of the hook or swivel . Pinch the tag and main line together the take tge tag around the line to form the first loop continue till you have 4 or 5 loops formed these are pinch together by your thumb and finger , wet the loops then by pulling the tag close the last loop then pul the tag end again the pull the second last loop closed around the line and up against the 1st formed , most times it had to pull the 3rd loop by the tag so you pull the loop 4th in line this pull the third loop up against the second then pull the 5th loop to close the 4th then the 5th . It critical that all the loops close up against each other in there order not one over the top of another if that happens your knot will be weak . Once you have all the loops closed around the line and in order wet and slide the loop back against the eye of the swivel or hook or ring pull on the tag then on both the tag and main line or trace cut tag but not to close to the knot .

You did the first one perfectly and then you done weird ones for the second and third??? Simply do 3 (or more) of the first snell knot down a long tag end then you can make your leader any length you want because it's still attached to the reel of leader line. I do ganged snells (first one) and a Palomar knot at the swivel.
