Hey Mike. Wild weasel in the house or pet stoat? Many years ago, working in a sailmaking shop housed in a quonset hut down by the lake in Ithaca NY, I had a weasel play with my shoe for about 5 minutes while I stood like statue. Hope you're doing well. Wax

Your thumb is terrific Mike! I love that second tune.
@MSB763 жыл бұрын
Thanks Adam! As always, a word of praise from you is worth ten from the average Joe! 😆 Second tune was a version of "Black Mattie" I came up with that obviously had little to do with the original R.L. version! One of those vids I decided needed to come down for various reasons... But I salvaged this little piece because I was never able to get that guitar to sound that good again with a slide! Maybe it was really dry that day!

Still don't understand how you missed the bus on being in an international touring jam band. Or a bluegrass star.
@MSB763 жыл бұрын
😄 Prolly cuz: 1) I was never THAT good. 2) I love playing but hate performing. 3) I got sick of jam bands in the 90s. And... 4) Most post-1950s bluegrass is unlistenable to me at this point. But thanks! 😁

Seen this video so many times over the years. Love your style. I'm seriously upset that you removed your Railroad Bill video, it was the best version I've heard. It's so much better with a slide and your voice was great. If you still have it you really should put it back up. Think I remarked about this last year. I keep looking for it and just see the usual.

I appreciate the kind words! I'm just not too crazy about a lot of that old stuff when I look back at it now. I was inspired by my friend Jerron's version but I like his SOOO much better. Just listened to 8 different recordings of Fred McDowell playing this tune but can't find any where he plays it with slide, only straight fingerpicking -- can you please drop a link to the version where you got this arrangement? PS Here's my favorite version, solo acoustic from his album Mississippi Fred McDowell @
@MSB764 жыл бұрын
Good call! Surprisingly you're the first person that's brought this up after all of these years! Haha! I should have emphasized stronger that I was in no way attempting to recreate what Fred did with this song. I was simply playing my own version inspired by his playing on several songs. I hardly even play slide or in open tunings anymore but even when I was deeply immersed in it, there were tons of subtleties in Fred's playing (not to mention many others) that I could never really wrap my fingers around. So I just did what sounded good to me at the time. Nowadays I can't stand listening to my version of this song cuz it was just too damn fast!

Oh my, you replied :-) thanks. sometimes the internet is gold. Mike I simply adore you -> for this insane gituar play with the bottleneck, the guitar change in the middle, your constant tapping on the floor? or a cajon? I always thought u are an absolute pro. Also hearing your husky voice singing that halleluja, sounds so warm and comfort. :-) Ay love it. I also have 2 guitars at home, one acustic and a western style with metalstrings, also a bottleneck. Do I need to say how much u inspired me? just playing for myself a few chords. your fingertips must be out of steel. I know how much it hurts to play the guitar like that. so.. im from southwest-germany, am german/italian heritage, that profile-pic is me, am 35, lookinganfeelingreallyyoung. I would love to get to know you. sorrynotsorry for "fangirling so much :-) hope u dont mind. Im not a crazy one, pretty normal, but when I see something good I have to appreciate, with all words I have available. So take care my friend.
