FFXIV finally had it's own Shadowlands

Aaaaah, I love this! I genuinely hope TNT sees and takes notes. I share a lot of your feelings and opinions, so I feel very vindicated. There are many points I've personally struggled to articulate, but you did such a great job explaining what made old plots so immersive and memorable in succinct detail. It's also nice to know that I'm not crazy for thinking the point shop was a mistake that took away from the overall plot experience. I'm glad this video exists, thank you for making it lol :'3

10 years (+5 for 1.0), that is more than enough time for entire mmos to have risen and fallen in popularity or have been unplugged for good, and many of them were capable of pushing the genre forward and influencing countless others in design. Meanwhile, the culmination of 10 years of FFXIV was a dreadful Mary Sue visual novel. What are they even doing?!

In regards to the references, as a FFIX fan it disgusted me. Nothing DT did earned the references or attempts at 'member berries' to get my feels. It just felt cheap. Talking to FFIV fans, they loved the easter eggs/references to their game during the EW patch cycle. I found the IV references meh, but lore accurate to FFXIV. So nothing disruptive. But boy, DT really pissed me off with the IX ones. Hearing FFIX music made angry during parts I was supposed to be like "REMEMBER THE FEELS FROM THE GOOD GAME? FEEL THEM HERE TOO".

I don't care about FFXI, but the Jeuno raid is maybe the most fun I've ever had in a alliance raid. the mechanics are SO good.

What are you waiting for? Go try chaotic. Even though not configured as a "alliance raid" I totally the think the 3 Bozja ones should have been thrown in here for fun. But if I had to select one out of those I would go with Myths of the Realm because I also factor in the music and while they were not difficult the difficult part only lasts the first week anyway. So when looking at it from a what would I want to hear on loop while going through the motions..... most certainly Myths of the Realm and not those other ones that just reference another Final Fantasy (Crystal Tower, Ivalice) or Nier. Nier would have been a pick but I absolutely do not like Copied Factory, Puppets Bunker and the fact it takes weeks to finish the story so that leaves just one in that series I actually like rerunning.

Why read when you can skip?

Factory is my favorite raid, the reason being that the mechanics felt and looked fresh at the time. The story for YorHa is easily the worst thing this side of dawntrail, however. The most disappointing for me is Myths of The Realm, because that was clearly to sweep the Twelve under the rug and be done with them like pretty much everything from 6.1 and onward. My least favorite is crystal tower, for which they should be financially fined for every day that it's not yet in the MSQ roulette.

I hate what this video does to me. My second thought watching this was: How can this model be so cute with those determined eyes and snaggle-tooth smirk? How can this voice be so soothing with such a rhythmic cadence. Why is she speaking the very same thoughts in my head right after posing the question, she's even wary of party finder too! Is she a figment of my imagination or could I be a figment of hers? We are all aware the mind can be fooled, the senses deceived, but how can I be sure I am not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time, those Dawntrail apologists are still asserting that story delivery was a masterclass in writing, after all... Virtual Iska reading my mind before I even had to chance to think the thoughts is a level of solipsism I didn't know I was worried about! Great video, love the editing and the model!

As per usual here is my second comment. I like this video. Like a lot. I describe what it is, but something about your humour and the way you talk always makes me laugh. Anyway, as usual I don’t play any games you are talking about (yay?) so I have no idea if any of the things you said make any sense so I’ll just say: keep it up! It’s always a blast watching your more casual approach to things. Sowy can’t really say anything bad about it. I just enjoy your content and will gladly leave a positive and supportive comment (as long as you are a good person ofc) to reassure you that you’re doing great. Tbh i have the most fond memories of the return to ivalice raids. Mostly because stormblood was when i started playing ffxiv and i thinks its difficulty and enjoyment of executing mechanics still holds fairly well despite its age. Nier had really good fights overall I just never cared for the aesthetics and personally I find to be somewhat OVERATED as a franchise...fight me. Good video though.

Personally i think the story worked as a "Beach episode" kind of expansion. I actually enjoyed the first half i love that kind of story. The second half my brain kinda shut off i barely remember it. It wasnt bad just its just such a jarring change of scenery that i felt like i was in a diffrent expansion i rather the whole futuristic thing had been cut out atleast until after base expansion. Let the mani baddy try to take over a diffrent way. As for Wuk Lamat i love her character and she was a amazing way to introduce the country by having her learn the cultures of people outside her city with the player. I dont think she is annoying at all. That being said i dont like her VA as a Transwomen myself i cant support her rants and tangents she goes on esspecially the "Smile is black gospel" rant Now as for content the dungeons are really good my favs are both the expert dungeons. You cant just mindlessly mash your face on your controller while half asleep you atleast have to pay attention to the bosses. Trials on other hand the normal versions are extremly lack luster imo but the Expert versions are some of the funnest fights ive had in awhile. As for the raids the Normals are fun and the Savages...are kinda easy with M4S being the only one we struggled with for a period. All in all i think Dawntrail has been my second fav expansion only behind Shadowbringers. I went into this expansion knowing it was basically a "Beach episode" kind of experience but i can see why others don't like it.

I disagree with "the walk"part. Yeah dawntrail is bad, that apart I agree but the writing on Endwalker wasn't much better. It felt forced to you to be sad while at the same time you knew the scions weren't really dead. So I was just waiting for the "power of friendship" moment where you bring all the scions back.

re: Zoraal Ja's characterization being subtle, a poor hapless fool I'd convinced to edit an unrelated writing project of mine said something that would stick with me. "I don't think you're being subtle here so much as you're just not saying things." His characterization isn't subtle, it's inconsistent and incomplete. You can fill in the blanks with all kinds of things if you're inclined to, and if you shove them in the right order you might even get something that makes sense in your head, but all the discussions of that reminded me of plot discussions of Lost. There's lots of blank space set up there where something _should_ be and you think it's foreshadowing to fill in later but it just... isn't?

Bakool ja ja development was kinda off. He went from evil dickhead to "actually im nice just stressed for my race" but it makes it unbelievable when he was willing to be a dick to his own men helping him.

Couldn't get through the MSQ, I was too bored with it. Which is really too bad because I loved everything till now. My partner unsubbed too, so it's questionable if we even come back for a future patch or even an expansion now.

I think my main issue with Dawntrail was the pacing. I pretty much agree with you on that front. We just finished a decade long storyline in which we killed a depressed goddess at the end of time in order to save the universe. And we need to start off with some worldbuilding for the new place. the first half is slow. Like.. you can do worldbuilding without just traipsing across the world. And I was sorta expecting it to finish just after we find the golden city. Like, some sort of story appropriate guardian that we "kill" and then it spawns some new form and slams the gate of the city shut or something, and then the next expansion explores that. I dunno. the pacing was just off. There wasn't even the hint of an overarching new greater plot. no hints of a greater threat or people watching from the shadows, pulling the strings...

Time does pass and they cheated it with the first. 5 years has passed since 2.1 Look at the Quest Build on the Stone and 3.1 Quest for reconfirmation Warburton Died 15 years ago at that point in the story. Then in 5.3 Shadowbringers, Quest One Final Journey, F'lhaminn says its now 20 years.

The change in writing team really shows. Sadly we do need the old team back as it stands this writing comes off as very amatuer

I am a new player who recently started playing Neopets when I saw some people on Gaia Online talking about it. I was enjoying it until the current plot started. The community seems to have gone insane and I don't want to be part of it anymore. The plot itself just feels like daily chores. I stopped logging in for a while due to boredom. When I returned, I was greeted with a blatant cash grab holiday event and plot hadn't improved at all. I don't think I will return.

Hannah and the Ice Caves was definitely one of my favorite plots. Could be biased cause I always played the game based on it.
