I know The Ripper isn't perfect but I just really love it. I avoided it for years because I kept hearing it was so bad but I decided to take a chance on the VS Blu-ray and I'm so glad I did. Goes to show, never listen to other people. So, I don't have any nostalgia for this movie. I never rented it as kid. I thought the movie was just really charming. I liked the characters. The effects are pretty decent for low budget. I enjoyed the story. I was never bored because the characters were pretty interesting and charming. I wish they had made a sequel because this was a cool premise. Tom Savini isn't great in this in my opinion but he isn't in it much so it's fine. I thought the other actors did a decent job. This is very low budget of course. Look, you don't need to like this movie but don't assume that everyone else is wrong because we haven't seen this in years or something. Everyone likes different things. Nothing wrong with that right? Let's not be so dismissive of other opinions and assume. I hate it when someone thinks because they liked or didn't like something that everyone must feel the same way. It's very conformist thinking

They are coming out with a standard blu and standard 4k and a steelbook version now in the US. Bu they are not a great looking as this but still more affordable i guess if you really want the movie in 4k with subs too. So im happy with that.

lol you're probably right, I haven't watched The Ripper since I had a vcr, 8 years or so. But I remembered it being better made than Night Ripper, which I watched as a kid, also on youtube recently..and I did like it too. But yeah...at least the gore is cool lol. There is also a Ripper influences movie called Jack is Back with James Spader. Great review !

The Exorcist 2023 was rubbish

most SOV horror is slow and drowning in padding, for obvious reasons. I liked this one, but The Ripper, also SOV from the same year with Tom Savini as the title character, is a lot better. It has dreadful pacing aswell, but the gore is insane and SOV horror is just charming af, in my opinion. Love the new setup, fantastic review !

This is not a Vinegar Syndrome release, It was released by Culture Shock, a former Vinegar Syndrome partner label. If you liked it I recommend the directors next sov movie Streets of Death, again starring Larry Thomas and also released by Culture Shock.

I like Night Ripper. I don't love it. I think for a very low budget film it's pretty good. It had some charm to it. The acting isn't great but it's not terrible either. I think if you like low budget SOV films, this one is worth checking out. I actually prefer the recent VS release The Ripper (1985). I can tell you what a bad movie is. For me personally, a bad movie is a boring movie. I don't care if a movie wins all the Oscars and critical praise, if I think it's boring, it's bad. But a movie that is SOV with a very low budget and bad acting yet is entertaining, not a bad movie. Very simple for me
