To cover the orange envelope I used white gesso but I could have used white paint. Hope that answers the question.

This is SO cute. I've never made a junk journal before, but you've inspired me! 25 years to 45 years is classic. 50 years to 99 years is vintage. 100 years or older is antique.

The "vellum" is an acetate quilt pattern. The girls are good to use for handkerchief paper doll cards. Great idea. I've good tons of those advertisement pages from old magazines from 50s and 60s.

I think the quilting pattern is produced by laying the vellum on the spot where you want the design and then cinnamon is "pounced" on the vellum so it goes through small holes of tge design and onto the fabric.
