Pedestrian guard rails are common in my country, I think same as Japan..

Even a large city can be designed into small villages with central park that is surrounded by local shops libraries and schools, a true social center within walking distance. The neighborhood no matter if it is surrounded by more neighborhoods or vast prairie can be built to be a community. This idea to me should be the starting point of any community building design. Without a physical focal point that ties a neighborhood together there will be endless dispute and confusion

Sadly I had similar arguments with the local authority I was working for when delivering a new sustainable urban extension, but because there was a school with several apparent near misses the highway authority just went ahead and put the guard rail in everywhere because parents had called for it and felt more reassured with it in...... fine..... well no not really, as your video suggests, the reasons change to suit the circumstances each time and negate children becoming less road savvy, with parents not necessarily having to lift their heads up from their mobile phones to ensure their kids are not run over...... don't get me wrong, having been in that situation I'm not judging but it seems to me it is all about responsibility and "whose it is" should it all go wrong rather than safety per se

Imagine wanting to encase 1 thousand of years of population growth into a single location. It is obvious sprawl is inevitable, unless you want people's living standards to decrease, as homes get progressively smaller.

Tribalism is the root of most problems, not only in professional fields, but also in general society as well. I'm a big fan of the New Urbanist concepts, because I think they are moving towards the right direction. But I don't label my self as a New Urbanist or any other type. I try to learn from everything and become a better Urban Planner.

What a waste of effort. It won't be long before no one needs to own a car. Electric bikes or Driverless Electric Air Taxis will ferry us about. Shopping will be delivered. Working from home will increase. I'm sure Ebenezer foresaw all this but just forgot to mention it. 😀

What if those 6 vehicles delivered the goods to the people. Use your head and come up with solutions to build off the idea. This guy is focusing on all the negatives. What if we did that with your video? Is there anything this guy finds positive of these idea's?

Very interesting video, thanks for explaining it. I'm a firm believer in private property and industry but I also agree with Howard's idea of changing society by voluntarily building an alternative instead of attempting to overthrow the existing structure. It's similar to Agorism.

Only a tiny bit of New Urbanist projects have been built & virtually none of the landscape urbanists projects. Both are apparently impotent.

This video is ridiculous. Carbon is our friend. The life cycle is also known as the carbon cycle. Carbon Hydrogen and Oxygen are by far the most important elements for life. All three are necessary for life. All three are involved in greenhouse gases as well. Oxygen and Hydrogen combine to form water vapor and water vapor is by faaaaaaar the most active greenhouse gas. It not only traps much more heat per molecule it is much much much much much more present both in the atmosphere and on the surface of the earth. So why aren't the NWO banksters and their scientists for hire screaming about our water footprints. Because the issue is not really about global warming (which doesn't even exist) the issue is about forcing major lifestyle changes on the population. The ruling elite want to create a new feudalism in which working class peasants won't have houses or cars, and will be living in tiny flats crowded into 20 story highrises in urban corridors along rail lines. It's not about saving the planet. It's about stealing your rights and your property. If you want to see this kind of urban planning and what it leads to go to Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai. Don't look just at the luxury areas for the rich. See what it's like in the poor areas as well. Give me urban sprawl over state-controlled planning any time.

This video is based on Maths but I've recently had to do an essay for uni on The Garden Movement. Howard wanted no cars in his towns what so ever. He wanted everything to be in walking distance for everything work and shops. It was mostly to do with health. To keep the factories but make the a better environment. It was based on the "Three Magnets" bringing the best of town and country together. However, the left wing social ideas were too new thats why he never found the funding. Oh well.
