Unfortunately, as soon as different views are described as cults the discussion is lost. Plenty of positive stuff from Moggie but the issues mentioned do exist,for many people, following what they normally do when buying or running cars have real difficulties running EV’s which you cannot trivialise. A mix of EV, ICE and other technologies is the answer and certainly not just “one solution “ fits all…and I’m a PHEV owner!

Bad for first owners but good news for us with second hand cars. I actually went to sytner to look at a 5 door one for about 135 thousand and sat in one it was great. I knew and they knew I couldn't afford one me and my mate where there for fun but might be able to in the future just wait abit

The production of cheap, green electricity, and plenty of it, needs to run parallel to the EV push. New Zealand has plenty of green electricity (hydro, geothermal, wind) but it's too expensive and the infrastructure is lacking.

I have recently made the switch to being an EV owner(ok it’s done via a salary sacrifice scheme through my employer) and being a fully paid up petrol head, I have to say I enjoyed the conversation you guys were having. I made the switch for purely financial reasons as my work scheme covers all costs and I can charge for free at work. I love all the tech my Ionic 6 has can’t fault it. I believe the manufacturers have focused on the wrong sector if they want to sell more products then they need to appeal to the biggest market ie the family and average man/woman not company directors and people who want a car with a 1000hp!!!

The best analysis was the part about who needs an EV so long as you have offroad parking and charging facilities, I've been saying this for years now. For those in flats etc or where they have no parking/ garages it's pointless. However as mentioned below, if the EV is less than say £45/50K to buy then Sales are probably doing OK, but above that figure then they're tanking in value overnight. The Car values in general have been reset after C-19 and value are returning to what they should be, but Manufacturers are now charging a hefty price tag on new cars. Possibly No option as emissions are driving up costs amongst other stuff.

Why would a channel for car lovers feature content which (1) has EV in the title, but (2) is not 100% clearly anti-EV? on;t you want subscribers of viewers? Makes as much sense as Tottenham Fen TV running a 10 part series on Thierry Henry.

The issue for me is choice. A hundred odd years of development have made ice cars a simple ownership experience. Forced ev adoption and the speed of forced change are creating massive problems. The fact that people have to try and convince us the ev’s are so good, says it all. If they are so good, you would not need to convince people.

“Forced EV adoption” Let’s ignore how government forced consumers to stop using horses as transport in favor of automobiles when humans had been using horses for THOUSANDS OF YEARS. The reason you have cars today is because of what governments did 100+ years ago.

I had to stop listening when he said ice drivers are like a cult but EV users aren’t . Sorry if you are a car guy then you can appreciate both but the holier than now position that all EV drivers are informed and everyone else hasn’t seen the light made me turn off a podcast first time ever. I get it he is passionate but lacks respect for everyone apparently now awakened to the light. Never mind the environmental damage done creating batteries whilst comparing to ice emissions. Very preachy Before he went on that I was genuinely thinking he has a great point. Then I just went off it all together. Makes me want to go drive my discovery towing my M3 while both are running. This is where the EV cult is a thing because self righteous is the definition of a cult.
@ElectricClassicCars
@ElectricClassicCars 3 күн бұрын
I think you need to listen again, as I never said ICE drivers are in a cult. I said that anti-EVers are in a cult, as their opinions are based purely on an overzealous belief system rather than direct experience and facts, usually based on misinformation. Whereas EV owners have direct experience of both EV and ICE and are merely communicating their positive experience with EVs. You should hear me rave on about VW Beetles which I’ve been passionate about for 30 years, I have owned loads of them and been to many VW shows every year. Does that mean I’m in a VW Beetle cult? 🤷‍♂️😉👍

@89five3five 10mins most, not an hour or longer when you queue up waiting for a charger! Your arguments are the usual things I hear and I would never wait more than 20mins at a stop, so your eating and toilet break argument is basically nonsensical to someone who drives long distances all the time

@ useless? 😵‍💫🤦🏼‍♂️ I did a trip through Europe in my EV in August and it worked great. Already planning another trip for next year - my son likes Euro theme parks 😊 Like mentioned in this video - range is limited by bladder size, not the size of your fuel tank or battery. Unless you are in a race across Europe situation then EV’s work fine - drive for 300 miles / 6 hours is enough between stops.
@89five3five
@89five3five 3 күн бұрын
@@damindraa group of American did a 3000 mile cross country road race. None of them had issue with the trip. And the USA is still far behind on EV infrastructure compared with UK and EU. And even with that disadvantage, that race was still possible. I will even let you know that race also involved a gasoline car, which won obviously. It arrived 2 hours before the first EV. But the organizers of that race also included a Tesla from 2012. They wanted to see just how far EVs had advanced since then. That Tesla arrived 14 hours later I believe. This shows that in 12 years EVs have gone from a disadvantage of 14 hours to 2. Imagine how much progress will happen in another 5 to 10 years when solid state and metal free batteries hit the market?

Evs were the only sector that grew in the UK last month. In October 2024, new car sales in the UK fell 6% year-on-year to 144,288 units, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This was the second time in 2024 that new car sales had declined. Here are some highlights from the October 2024 UK car sales data: Best-selling cars The Kia Sportage was the best-selling car in October 2024, followed by the Ford Puma, MINI Cooper, Volvo XC40, and VW Tiguan. Powertrain sales Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) saw a 24.5% increase in deliveries, capturing 20.7% of the market. Gasoline-engine car sales dropped 14.2%, diesel-engine car sales dropped 20.5%, hybrid vehicle sales fell 1.6%, and plug-in hybrid vehicle sales fell 3.2%.

Only thing I’d say is the chassis can’t cope with the power I’d go as far to say you don’t have much control once in full flight it’s all over the place. The M3 is completely tied down you are in full control.

So for your guest to suggest tesla didn't make any money for years is both true and nonsense. No other 'car' maker has its own network. That's where they money went. 100% not just dominating the EV market but in some places the car market. More and more people are realising that an EV works for them and when it comes to EV’s Tesla are the best. They’ve built from the ground up so everything just works. In a world that is so foreign to ev’s, making the total ownership experience as easy and smooth as possible is the reason why they’re still and will continue to dominate. Now they’re beginning to make good quality premium cars which now starts enticing those who have only ever gone with the Germans because of the perceived premium quality. If you haven’t already, you guys should deffo test out the new model 3, performance to maybe better suit your car enthusiasm

I believe the motortrade is the cause of inflation. A newer model must be £20k more than last year's? The product has got worse yet production costs more?
