People forget that Doc replaced Skitch Henderson as the Tonight Show band leader after Skitch messed up.

In 1967, 40 year old “Doc” played with my HS band (WAY before my time) as part of a U.S. tour. His rendition of “La Virgin de La Macarena” (taped on reel-to-reel) was amazing. A total professional, as a musician and a person! Thanks TrumCor. What a great surprise for one of my all time favorite musicians!

I love seeing him but I hate to see him so old. I'm getting there myself. I watched the tonight show all through the seventies and it just feels like it was yesterday.

Not believe Doc is 97 years old looks that good his hands look 40-year-old man’s hands. His brain is his sharp as a young man believable. His mother lived to be 101 years old. He’s amazing trumpet player my gosh he was a real gift from God, or is a gift from God.

When I was about 14 ... (in 1979), my parents bought me a Getzen Eterna - Severinsen Model Trumpet.... I played it all through college and off and on and still play it today... I also remember my dad waking me up after bedtime any time Doc and the Band got to play a whole number on the Tonight show...I saw the Tonight Show Band live once on tour and damn!!... one of the best bands in the world. - Great to see him still going at 97 ...for the record, I'm 60 now. Thanks for the music an the inspiration Mr. Severinsen!
