Good start on interview of living history. If you do more of these have questions prepared...look for traditions of the era...dating rules...how to discipline childen...did brothers serve in the war...and such. Every time an old person dies its like a library has burned down.

I remember my first times listening to Brother Keith Green’s music ministry and Second Chapter of Acts… Matthew Ward. Praise God and my Lord Jesus for my salvation through his death and Resurrection and via this music. I rocked for Jesus! 🥰🥰👍👍❤️❤️✝️🎶

Matthew is so incredibly talented! Grew up listening to him & his sisters in the 70's! My mom had their first record & when I got older, HS age my sister & I REALLY got into them. They are still one of my top favorite Christian artists along with Chuck Girard/Love Song/ Keith Green/ Andre Crouch/ Barry McGuire! Thanks for posting- I somehow found this last nite❤

I was in the front row. A concert video filmed by Steve's students was in the works depending on the quality of the footage obtained. But it's been about 10 months so not sure about the ETA.

Matthew was one third of the CCM sibling group Second Chapter of Acts in the 70s and 80s. You would not likely know of him unless you were into Christian music, as he almost never performed or recorded anything else. A notable exception, from the same year (1983) as this video, is a duet with Donna Summer called Love Has A Mind Of Its Own. Look that up, it's worth a listen. Matthew is still active in Christian music, singing in concert occasionally. 2nd Chapter split up in 1988.

Matthew was a fan of Stevie Wonder and emulated elements of his style vocally. (IMO it's one of those occasions where the sequel is better than the original movie...)

I lived in Nashville from August 1989 to December 1998, and there are precious few things from that time there that I really miss: Chez Jose, Shaking Family, being young marrieds with Kathleen, and... Chagall Guevara. Whatever you've heard about the legend of Chagall, trust me: it's all true. I met them in by happenstance in Perkins Restaurant on 21st Ave across from Vanderbilt one time after they'd finished a show. Loaded in and out a couple of times for them after that. Great guys, all. I still have the cassette demo of "Tale O' The Twister," and, I believe, "Escher's World," and "Murder In The Big House." I think either Steve or Dave passed it to me. Kathleen and I did our time, got (more or less) what we came for, and left. Crazy good, turbulent, uproarious, hopeful times. Eventually, though, it just didn't feel like home anymore.

Wow, I wish the audio was better. His runs are amazing!!! Incredible tenor voice, flawless and seemingly effortless singing.
@stevetournay6103 Жыл бұрын
This is from a 1983 concert involving 2nd Chapter and Michael and Stormie Omartian, and it was released as a double album...on which of course the audio IS better. It's worth hunting for... Incidentally Matthew is still active in Christian music, singing in concert occasionally. And his voice is still tops.

Did they play Monkey Grinder? I once played that to a Denver Seminary class on media-era apologetics -- as an exercise in listening closely to culture -- and asked students to propose interpretations of the lyrics. The results were mixed, as you would expect. I wish I had recorded that for Steve Taylor.
@treyshaver57522 жыл бұрын
They did. They also had a film crew there and plan to release at least some of it as a concert film.
