I am trying to learn more about Michigan specific points and spear heads now. Educate myself more (I am a teacher). Over the last 3 yrs I have found 6 in total, all in a about a 50 foot sections by my dock in houghton lake. In the sand in the water, maybe 6 to 10 inches deep at most. I have a small cabin there and I often sift the stone off our seawall. I decided to sift the stone to make a two car parking space behind our cabin rather than buying the stone. During this I espected to find cool rocks and maybe a petoskey stone here and there. I have found many cool things but the 6 points are at the top of the list. Smallest an inch and half to a couple that are 4 and half inches. My family and friends just say that is what happens to me because what I think often happens for me. I did hope to find a point or two but never expected to find what I found. I took the 1st white 4 inch point and put it on a spiral spear I made. It is a conversation piece for sure when people come up to our little cabin on houghton lake. The others are in a display case that I never thought I would need to purchase, but I am happy I have had to do so!!!

That’s really awesome to find any Michigan points! Let alone by sifting along an inland lake shore. I see people sift along the Ohio River and do well, but those shorelines are covered in native sites that are constantly eroding. It’s very interesting along Houghton Lake. Being a drainage of the Muskegon River there’s probably a lot of history there. I’m curious where the points you found might have originated from. Where is the original site. If you’d like to email some pictures of the points, I can try and type them for you. If not, no worries. Congratulations either way! They are finds of a lifetime and pieces to cherish.
Just sent you a email of the points and the one I have on a spear

I'm in Michigan and have never found a point. This video gives me hope! Couple hand ax/choppers, and tons of scrapers like that big one, or smaller. They almost always have a human face worked into one edge, and a sharp notch like a seat belt cutter. I've assumed that these were for skinning and scraping hides. Also have found flint carved into lions and elephants! 😳🤷
@artifactaddictionАй бұрын
Thank you for the comment and view! Keep at it and you’ll come across a point soon enough. They are definitely out there.

I know you hunt Indiana, I recently heard collectors on face book saying point hunting in Michigan was not that great,but i worked at a warehouse in nc where truck driver from Michigan would say the thumb section of Michigan has points, any way nice to finally get a video congrats on your finds.

Thanks for watching and commenting! Michigan is definitely a lot tougher to find points versus our neighboring states for me personally on the West side of the state. Although I do love finding quantity in Indiana or Ohio, I certainly treasure these local finds. Few as they may be…👍

Michigan was tough to find points in when I lived there . Now that I have been in Sc for 9 years hunting everyday, I think I'm more prepared to go home and try again. Kool Finds!

Not a bad hunt at all. Congrats on the points and tool. I'm rock hounding on Lake Michigan and found a stone knife tumbling around. Im not sure what the laws are here, so i just documented it and tossed it back. I've never been to the great Lakes and man its so peaceful out here.

Awesome finds! I am in SW Michigan and have only ever found one arrowhead. Between me, my brother, dad, and grandpa, we have found 6 arrowheads and a scraper around my parents property. Do you have any suggestions on good areas in SW MI to look? I have been looking in a field that runs along a creek for about a mile with a swamp as well with no luck so far.
@artifactaddiction4 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting! Michigan finds are awesome anytime you come across one. They definitely seem to be fewer than other adjoining states however. My only advice for Michigan finds would be to keep looking in the areas you know have a possibility. (Fields along water). They don’t all have stuff, therefore you need to check as many as possible. The finds might be few, but it’s there to find with perseverance. Best of luck!

@@artifactaddiction I kind of figured Michigan might be a little tougher to find artifacts. I have found a Hafted Scraper and a nice little point in the last couple weeks though! Just got permission on a field that is about 150-200 yards from a large lake and found the point within the first hour. Lots of flakes too so there is a good chance I find more! (Fingers Crossed) Good luck to you as well!
@artifactaddiction3 ай бұрын
Awesome! One point is definitely better than none! I’ve found two nice Michigan points and a few tools over the last few weeks as well. Checking out a new property tonight that butts up to a large swampy lake. We’ll see if anything pops up. Best of luck to you on the new property! If there’s a bunch of flake, there’s definitely points….👍
