u should try midi kits just to get the ball running for melodies and you will know what sounds good

There is a melody technique used in many different opium songs called call and response: You use two different synths and have them take turns playing little riffs back and forth. I would suggest using that as your buildup and possibly even in your main beat. Using filtered claps is also a very good strategy for achieving a more punchy and hard hitting beat. Keep up the great work!
