No 'devil" (granting that there would be any--which there aren't) worth its salt want to trick humans into doing bad things. The BEST devil out there would be one that would trick humans into thinking they were right, the true, doing the truly good thing. If I were the 'devil" I'd convince everyone to read that bible cover to cover, really soak it in. Why? Because then they would see that it's all a crock. There's a reason why the Pew survey reported only 1 in 9 Christians had read the bible clean through. The other people who had read it became EX-Christians.

Not exactly hidden power. The Spanish used it as they conquered the Philippines. The British used it as they conquered native Americans. Americans used it to liberate from the English, kill native Americans, invade Mexico and continue slavery. The power of the bible has been used for 2 thousand years to commit much atrocities

The Lord Jesus never condemned the Pharisees for KEEPING the law, but by making the law of none effect. So it is more like progressive Christians that are displaying a pharisaical attitude to the one who embodies the WHOLE law, and making his words of no effect.
