Well I actually listen on the podcast player in the car usually but I come back here to comment ;) Unless there is a compelling video element like like D&D live play I think most audio podcast struggle to get a YT audience. (Untill YT fix their stupid Podcast feature and actually send it out as an RSS)

The more you know! It is kinda annoying that the open landscape of podcasts means that there isn't one single place for comments or communication, so you have to go through another party to interact. So I guess that is a bonus in having the episodes on KZbin, that it's easy for comments.

Secret second languages are great. Many years ago I was out drinking in Sydney with a mate. We got chatting to two Norwegian girls at a bar. Their English was excellent and they made it clear they both had boyfriends back home but we still shared a drink for a little while. Every few minutes they'd break into private conversation in Norwegian, giggle, and continue on chatting in English. As they excused themselves to leave my mate broke out in perfect Nordic that their boyfriends were very lucky to have them and wished them the best on their Australian adventures. They both turned tomato-red, clarified in Norwegian that he had in fact understood every word they said and he gave them a very brief version of learning the tongue on his tales solo walking across the entire country, in winter, with little more than an inflatable canoe and bags of flour to mix with the snow. He tells me they had been chatting about what they'd like to do to us if they had in fact been single... I was very flattered. 🤣🤣

I've used AI a bit for Thumbs recently, and other creative projects. I've just released a whole line of D&D paper minis on my Etsy store, all "AI-Generated"... to a point. Sure, AI can throw up some awesome stuff quickly, but it is rarely exactly what you want. Often it takes many iterations, then photoshopping to tweek the image to usable. Or you need 3, 4, 5 extra elements to add like weapons and backgrounds, then scaling, recolouring etc etc... there is still a HEAP of graphic design work needed even with powerful AI like midjourney. Great tool, but like CNC, lasers and 3D printers, there is still a lot of human input to get things right.

We have universal health too but like in other places it is under stress. Luckily where we live we have world class facilities on our doorstep. We were in hospital 8 days after my daughter was born... $0. We can also walk in and see a doctor usually within an hour for free. 1.5% of our tax goes towards funding this (2.5% if you dont have private health). My private costs about 60 quid a month. All in all, not bad.

It's so weird hearing about some countries where it costs money to deliver children. When our kids were born, we just got a bill for like $10 for every night I spent at the hospital.

First time I've seen this and after 1 min of listening I have no idea what this is about... new years? or woodworking or something? Why not swap out "Thank you so much for listening!" in the description for the tag line of the podcast so I know quickly roughly what topic you cover. We might be subconsciously transitioning into being a home appliances pod... AC:s isn't as big of a deal up here in the cold north, but heat pumps could definitely be a future topic! That's the drawback with the international maker community - we are all pretty spread out geographically...

I am glad my Plopp made it past the post office unmolested! Getting sponsors is a two-edged sword. Free stuff is nice, but you gain commitments and it can skew your content away from what you want to do if you are not careful. I think the trick is (to answer another question you ask "what tools would you use if you were not sponsored?") to only accept tools you would have bought yourself. Yes, I was given an expensive tablesaw, but I already had the money on the table so it was a natural fit to work with the company to pay in content instead. So here is a question for your Ask Us Anything Episode. I am fortunate to now have a relationship with the biggest woodworking supplier in Australia, Carbatec. They are a great match for me. If you _could_ work with just one company as a sponsor, who would you pick and why? :)
@CrudeButEfficient

I think that's the healthy way to go with sponsors. Not the easy way, but the best one in the long run. Great question!

You are correct it was nasty and did a lot of damage but I think i got lucky. Surgery went well and the tendon was reattached and all sewn up. 1 week down and I finally got the dressings off to take a look today. Looking really well! Got 3 months of physio to get it moving properly again but fingers crossed I'll be back in the shop before that!!!!! ❤❤❤🤜🤛❤️❤️❤️ Love to you all 💪🏼

Battery nailers are great these days, but good ones are expensive and cheap ones rubbish. I delete all my raw footage once the YT video is live, I only keep the actual video, and even that has been exported at 1080p and is no longer 4k. I've not missed it, if I ever need a clip I can generally get it from the YT video.

Some things are just so complex that it isn't possible to make an okay cheap version... So far I haven't used any of my old original files, but as long as I have hard drive space to spare, I'll keep saving everything.
