Sometimes resellers do have negative things happen to them. Other times they do it to themselves and just want to complain about it.

As always I find some nugget of helpful information in your videos. I have graduated from the FBA model and continue to build my business around free pickups/donations, estate sales and auctions. No more library sales for me. I am wondering what are your thoughts on the value of using third-party scanning apps like Scoutly & ScoutIQ for lookups? I am finding it hard to justify the continued investment in a product that seems to provide data that is way off the mark. Amazon seller app and ebay research seem to do the job.
@GoldAndSilver9884 күн бұрын
I can't imagine standing in a thrift store and taking so much time to determine for each book whether or not it's eBay worthy. By the time I finished all this info searching for one eBay book, I could have probably scanned thirty more for Amazon. I know it's different for you since it's already in your own store, but for the 99.9% of us who would have to be doing this while in a thrift store, it seems to be a hugely inefficient use of one's time.
@510Books4 күн бұрын
I am not going as fast as I normally do for the purposes of this video. I scan all quality books with barcodes or ISBNs using Scoutly and look up older books on eBay. I am much quicker when not recording myself. I have been selling on Amazon since 2014, so I know how to use my tools quickly and efficiently. Also, I know which books are worth looking up on eBay, whereas most Amazon only sellers don't even know which books are worth looking up on Amazon. I have experienced countless times when I go into a thrift store and find high profit books to sell on eBay, and just saw an Amazon seller skip those books. Thanks for watching!

As an Insider (I used the last of my points for wallpapers and printables because I know some kids), I don't think this has everything to do with physical and digital, tbh. I joined the movie rewards program for the merch offerrings, not for DVDs. When it got combined under Insider, the merch offerrings got sparse, and unique merch for releases dwindled. That told me that Disney was closing warehouses. It's why it's not surprising why they are outsourcing to Sony. They just don't want to have their own space. I do think physical sales are down, but I've also seen enough kids reject buying new or secondhand because they're still riding on their parents accounts and don't feel the need to own it. For me, the target demo of kids and teens who consumes Disney content, doesn't want Disney stuff. Disney is simply meeting the lower demand by downsizing. It's why maintenance, event, programming, art and planning related to the program is closing as well - the sales don't justify sponsoring it even if the service is part of what made Disney great. I mean, I heard from passholders that they run out on Halloween candy now. Kinda sad, really.

Streaming is for people with mainstream taste. Physical Media is for the rest of us. You cannot get most obscure titles on streaming. That's how people like you (and me) can make a living off of selling P.M. it's never going away.
@510Books6 күн бұрын
Yes, physical media is here to stay despite most people following the masses towards streaming. I'm amazed at how many movies, CDs etc. can be sold for higher amounts simply because that content is not available to stream.
@masterchririus9 күн бұрын
I see one comment here, but the counter says 0. I think a part of the industries want to go completely digital, is that they can edit out "problematic" parts, edit out jokes that "offend" etc. They can't do that on a printed media. Like if an actor in one of their movies say something controversial, they can hide the movie or edit out their part, especially now that A.I, is getting better. Same goes with music/artists.. Maybe you should cut the envelopes nicely with a box-cutter, instead of tearing them open, if you want to preserve them?
@510Books6 күн бұрын
Going completely digital means the content is controlled by the streaming companies not by the consumer. However, if one has a physical copy of the movies/Tv shows etc they most enjoy watching then they take back that control. I was nicer with opening the next Disney Movie Club envelopes I received in the mail

Napster set a precedence that people didnt want to pay $25-30 for a cd when there was only one song they wanted off of a cd. The issue lies with licensing and because of it, there are plenty of movies unavailable or limited for viewing via streaming. Anyone can set up a server and add all their movies to it and get the advantage of streaming as well as choice to watch it anytime they want.
@510Books6 күн бұрын
Napster set a precedence of getting music for free, so millions flocked to download songs versus paying for CDs. Yes, licensing is the culprit, but regardless of the reason physical media will not go away. Ok, anyone can download their movie collection to a server/hard drive and watch them when they want, but what is your point exactly?
@agateidest6 күн бұрын
@510Books My point was as you said, physical media isn't going anywhere because people want to watch their favorite movies whenever they want and not have to pay over and over to rent it or wait for it to show up on a streaming service. They can do this by adding them to their server, so then they can put all the discs in storage INSTEAD of having to clutter their house with them( just like the convenience of streaming). You pointed out the Effect of what happened with Napster, the CAUSE of Napster happening was just as I described, people were sick of paying $25 for a cd that had one good song on it. Napster went away when they started offering purchase of one song instead of whole cd. Your response sounds like you thought I was arguing against what you said, not the case at all. If anything, as someone that has amassed a very large collection of physical media, I was agreeing for the demand now and in the future of physical media. A home server mimics streaming media so you have the conveniences of it while still maintain the freedom of having a large physical media collection.
@agateidest6 күн бұрын
@@510Books People downloading from Napster was Effect, not cause. The cause was just as I stated because people don't want to pay $25 for one song on a cd. I was agreeing that physical media isn't going anywhere. With a home server you can get the benefits of streaming AND watching what you want when you want, while someone like me with a huge physical media collection can have it stored in the attic. That was my point. Licensing is a problem because you can't get half the regular stuff on their streaming services all the time, much less rare and oop titles.

The AI tools eBay offers will likely help some sellers. In terms of AI being a disruptive factor to reselling as a whole, I am doubtful. As long as we are selling quality items, with enough photos, and the correct keywords in our titles AI should have little impact on our businesses.

Andrew, you mentioned pickers and empty space. Good Job, How many CDs to you normally sell in a lot on eBay and how much is your asking typically?
@510Books15 күн бұрын
It depends on the CDs. If there is a demand then I might only need a few CDs, but a general rule is the more CDs the better. If I only have 8 Garth Brooks CD for a lot it's probably not enough, but if I have 25 my lot will likely warrant a higher price. If you can offer every CD from an artists catalogue then that is ideal, but the closer you get to completing their catalogue the better.

I am a eBay book seller (90% vintage books) I never use AI. I am old fashioned I guess. I think my customers want a real person typing the information in the fields. I think for the type of books I sell (primarily before 1990) people want to see actual photos, not Stock photos. I know it takes me longer to list & photograph but I think that is what is the best for my business & customers. I am not concerned in my business about the future of AI as I will not be using it.
@510Books15 күн бұрын
I agree with you, especially for older books. Buyers are willing to spend the money on higher priced collectible books if they see enough photos and accurate information. eBay sellers who use AI are likely not selling higher profit media items, or are going to have a much lower sell through rate. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@judyg988917 күн бұрын
Totally agree. I'm a bookseller, and buy a lot of books for our store. I *never* buy on Amazon for the reasons you stated: no photos or meaningful description, no communication with seller. I *never* buy on Ebay if there's a stock photo, AI description, or cut-and-paste bragging about store instead of anything about the actual book. I'm getting ready to sell on Ebay myself and take as many photos as possible; minimum for a cheap paperback would be all six faces, copyright page, first page, and close-up of defects. It only takes seconds longer to add enough photos for good communication. Using AI to populate the item specific fields ("sell similar") can be a timesaver as long as I recheck *every single one*, but AI for the title or description is utterly worthless; it should be *all* about the details/ condition of the *exact* book I'm selling, which AI *cannot* describe! Like you, I'll be selling unique books. I *love* books, and have no desire to be a power flipper.
@510Books15 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. You are the kind of eBay seller that should do well because of taking quality photos, putting the correct keywords in the title and having accurate item specifics. As long as you are listing a good amount of books per week you should see a lot of sales. Best of luck and thanks for watching.
@kokorospirit500617 күн бұрын
I find the AI descriptions on eBay far too verbose, rather prefer succinct, useful and on point descriptions with key information. It might improve in the near future. It would be good to have an indication on how changing a keyword in title would increase potential views (realtime calculation), impacting ultimately potential sell-through. I guess that is more SEO than AI driven.
@510Books16 күн бұрын
I don't use the AI tools in eBay, they are clueless. Yes, a title keyword tool would be awesome. Considering eBay has so much sales data I believe they could create a title keyword tool to help during listing. Thanks for commenting.

Ebay is HORRIBLE. You need at least 10,000 listings if you are selling media just to get consistently good sales. Or sell stuff that hasn't flooded every marketplace. Good thing you are selling in your warehouse, and have revenue coming offline.
@510Books17 күн бұрын
I have found eBay to be consistent and reliable for sales. I mostly list collectible books, CDs and DVDs with some other media here and there. I have learned over the years how important the right keywords in my titles are, having the correct item specifics and taking enough quality photos. Also, selecting items that are in demand or are rare enough to fetch higher prices. I have definitely learned to not list just anything, and have become better at focusing on items that should actually sell.

I've mostly sold books and media, a little bit of electronics, for 10 years and physical media is just as popular now. If the screenplay has a letter or handwritten message to Brandt then it could be worth some money. You can put it up on eBay for a high amount and see if there is any interest, or you can inquire with a higher end auction house to see if they would have any interest.

I always put photos on Amazon--always have. Makes a huge difference because it sets you apart from others and you can get a better price or a quicker sale from buyers who know there are a bunch of yahoos and dubious sellers on Amazon. I updated a couple listings that had been up for a few weeks the other day with pictures (I had forgotten or the seller tool had a bug that day) and two of them sold the next day. Ebay has been very poor performing for me lately, around 1/8 of what Amazon has been doing. I tried an auto repricer for a month but it priced books too high as well as going down. I rarely manually reprice and all the local resellers I know say the same. Just have to wait for the price to go up and down as they often do and you'll get the sale at some point, especially with a non-generic description and photos. If you're selling low ranked best sellers or certain genres the price may drop quickly, but I do very well with a set it and forget it pricing strategy--just got to set it right.
