Hi. I am a high school freshman who planned to take all the AP sciences in my sophomore year, and I initially felt daunting as I didnt know what resource did I need. However, after seeing your video and your enthusiasm in teaching biology, I am feeling less nervous about the exams! you are truly the best teacher and you deserve it!!!! wish you all the best sir

For the last question, wouldn’t the values further right on the graph be slower, since the rate units are ms/codon. Is it showing that the more milliseconds it takes to translate one codon, the slower the rate or am I reading the graph wrong?

Hey! This was a great video. For 1aii, I think that your answer is what I originally thought, but I think here the idea is that if the sister chromatids crossed over they would have either 0 or 2 fluorescent markers. Since some haploid gametes will only have one, it means that crossing over didn’t occur. I think the right answer would be that, “Some of the haploid cells formed after meiosis will have only one fluorescent marker because the sister chromatids on each homologous chromosome that eventually separate into haploid cells were not involved in crossing over.” or at least something along the lines of what I said. I could be totally wrong though :)

For question 1 d.i., I said that the number of copies of chromosome 8 would increase and my justification for d.ii. was correct. Would I likely lose the point for di since I didn't mention that the number of copies could also decrease?
@mrchowpodcast
@mrchowpodcast 7 ай бұрын
Hey thebeston6710, thanks for your comment! Based on how the question is asked, I think you should be good as long as you stated a correct answer with justification. I'm not an AP grader, but that's what I would guess! Great job on being done!

Do you think that the curve for this year will be lower or higher then previous years? Like will we need less or more points to get a 5? How many points is it normally out of 120?
@mrchowpodcast

Hey user-ie8, thanks for your comment. Great question, I wish I could tell you, but it really all just depends on all of the students who took it this year. Overall, after taking this year's exam, I thought it was a pretty straightforward exam (in terms of the content tested), but as I say down and completed the 6 FRQs myself (over 90 minutes), I noticed that I was rushed to finish as some of the FRQs (especially #1) had multiple parts / was lengthy. Overall, I've noticed for the AP Biology curve, it being pretty consistent over the years. Here's a link to to the distributions last year: apstudents.collegeboard.org/about-ap-scores/score-distributions

For question 3 b), will mentioning reducing bias in the results count?
@mrchowpodcast
@mrchowpodcast 7 ай бұрын
Hey joedassin5436, thanks for your comment. I believe that answer could work but it would also depend on how you explained it in your justification. I believe as long as you answered it explaining how we need to isolate / test 1 variable and/or to focus on our variable tested, you should be good. I wish you the best on your AP exams!

For part 1di and 1dii, I predicted that there will be a fewer number of chromosome 8 in the cells and I basically justified it as you said it (fewer would align & separate properly) but did not mention nondisjunction. But, my prediction was not the same as yours because you said there will be an abnormal number due to nondisjunction (more/less). Do you think that will get me 2 points, 1 point, or 0 points altogether?

Hey Sigma07548, thanks for your question! I am not an AP grader, but based on the question "Predict the effect" followed by "provide reasoning to justify", Yes, I believe that answer could actually work. No worries if you didn't put nondisjunction, I believe as long as you provided reasoning to justify, you should be good. Also, even if you get 1 part right, you absolutely will get credit for 1 part. I wish you all the best and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!

Thank you @notjackk for your encouragement / reassurance. I still remember as a student, after each AP exam, I would also feel the same way (so no worries), but eventually I too realized that "as long as I did my best" that is truly what matters most. I wish you too the best!

Hey Mr. Chow! I just wanted to make a quick correction: most AC units actually use a heat exchanger in the outdoor condensing unit to cool off the hot air that flows into it (just the exact opposite of the furnace's heat exchanger, except that the hot metal is replaced by an air pipe), which means that no outside air is ever pumped into your home; all the air in your HVAC system generally is just the recirculated air from your home.

Hi Mr. Chow! This is Sophia C. 1. The thing that I took away from this lesson was that giving generously will impact not only our lives and the people we become, but also impact other people's lives in positive ways. 2. I will begin practicing generosity today by thinking about ways I can donate and benefit my community and others. 3. Being generous is important to me because it motivates me to become a better person and use my money to positively impact others' lives.

1. generosity humbles, and it is true. After donating a month back, I became more humble than I was. This just affirms it. 2.I'm gonna really need to be kinder to people. Normally I don't say much but I should come out of my comfort zone and be nicer. 3. Because the people in the community are worth just as much as me if not more, so I should make the world a better place by giving. Everyone should experience generosity.

Hi Mr. Chow, so I have a question. Is it better to buy a new car or one that is used but still good quality? Often times online when I want to buy a book its generally cheaper for me to buy a used copy in good condition. Is it the same for cars? Do the topics you go over apply to used cars? Is it a different market?
@mrchowpodcast
@mrchowpodcast 7 ай бұрын
Hello! Sorry for my delay in response! It all depends on your financial situation. Overall, if you can find a used reliable (in great condition) car that can usually save you a lot of money up front/from the depreciation. If well maintained, even a used car can last you for many years! And yes, all depends on the current market (supply, interest rates, etc)! Great job!

Hi Mr. Chow! This is Pranav. Hope you are having a great winter break and thank you for taking your time and creating this finance course for everyone. I have learned a lot regarding finance and greatly appreciate all that you have done for me. One takeaway from today’s lesson that will really stick with me is that the richest person seems not to be the one with the most money, but the person who can say that they have been the most generous. I intend on practicing generosity today by creating a gratitude note for family and friends, to remind them how grateful I am for them. Being generous is important to me because it shows me how people can give to others who truly need it, and how those who are not even financially rich can still be generous in different ways. Thanks again for everything you have done!
