Outstanding. And truly sad to see. Drove through the town a couple of years ago while researching a series of short stories about the area. My what a change from the 80s when I lived nearby...

As a teen liveing in Penns grove, I will tell you it's changed. It's not a good place to be. Just last night we had a kid shot in the back of the head. It's nothing but drugs and money now. Even as a young child you have to wach your back. If you are raising a child here, I have one thing to say: Get the fuck out. Because it could be your child next.

So sad...I live outside of town and remember all those buildings thriving with businesses Saturdays busy with traffic. Never had to lock your front door. Now look at it...one sad sack of a town..and why you ask?? THE WELFARE OFFICE RUINED OUR TOWN!!! We all need to stand up, take pride in our town and kick the Welfare office back to Salem where it belongs!!! The Welfare office brought the trash into our town and I think it's time to TAKE THE TRASH OUT FOR GOOD!!

yeah, it got worse when that office moved in... Salem folks followed it.

Whenever I think of Penn's Grove, I tend to think of the song "My Hometown" by Bruce Springsteen. I cannot understand how for the life of me how that town deteriorated over the last four decades (maybe longer). My mother and her two sisters were raised there back in the 1940s, '50s and early '60s on Lanning Avenue. My grandparents left Lanning Avenue in 1969, but moved a short distance away onto Christmas Avenue where they lived their last years. They passed away in 1992 and 1996. @ 0:50 - The remains of the pier at the end of Main street? ada stanley - Wasn't West Pitman Street where there was a fairly heavy Italian population until the 1980s?

Yes I grew up on Pitman st. There were many Italian families but it was also a very diverse neighborhood.

The Kenny Rogers killed it for me. And I agree with poster who said you need more footage of how it used to be and less of the rundown crap I can drive through town and see myself. Why do they leave that Riverwalk sign up?!

I think this video would have had a bigger impact if you had shown the splendor of the town we all remember along with the sadness of the decay that has overwhelmed the town.
