This time we request you for the tutorial of a devotional song, a "shabad" (bhajan) by Sri Guru Nanak Devji Maharaj. This devotional song is a prayer to the Almighty, Govind-Gopal, for His Transcendental Bliss. Although, sung in the ecstasy of devotional servitude, the song is also full of the devotional ecstasy of eternal friendship with the Lord Govind Gopal. The "shabad" was originally revealed by Sri Guru Nanak Devji, almost 500years ago. Jagajit Singh ji (a guru sikh) has sung this in the ISKCON Radha Raasbihari (Radha Krishna) temple juhu (Mumbai) in 1974-75, in the early days of his struggle in music industry, with the blessings of Sril A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder acharya of the ISKCON worldwide. The Jagjit Singhji's version of the bhajan starts with a Mangalacharan as the vedic verses, that the color of Srimati Radharani is like a pure gold which comes out of the ascetic heating process of devotion. She is the Princess of Vrindavan, She is the divine daughter of Sri Vrishabh Bhanu Maharaj. She is the most beloved of Hari, Krishna, Who is the remover of all the obstacles of His loving devotees. In this age of Kali (yuga) there is no other way, no other way but no other way than simply singing the glories of Radha-Krishna, to get out of hell like situations generated by maya. @swarmanjusha2 As per your wish, we are posting the story (history/origin) of the creation of the modern RAGA, Nat-Bhairav : Oliver Craske’s superlative biography of Shankar, Indian Sun, contains more detail on the raga’s origins (p.106): “In Pune, in year 1945, Modern Hindustani music maestro Pt. Ravi Shankar heard B.R. Deodhar singing a composition that had elements of two well-known ragas - Nat and Bhairav - and included [both Re]. In a moment of inspiration, Ravi thought of a way to improve it by using only the [shuddha Re], and he elaborated it further by defining ascending and descending patterns and distinctive phrases…He had created his first original raga, and called it ‘Nat Bhairav’. The real test of a new raga is whether it becomes part of the repertoire. After Pt. RAVI SHANKAR started playing Nat Bhairav in concerts and on the radio, other musicians picked it up and performed it regularly, without knowing that he had created it. Later some claimed it had already existed, but although the scale used was common to other ragas, what Pt Ravi Shankar created was a new raga: ‘It pains me when young musicians claim it as an old North Indian raga. For this version of Nat Bhairav did not exist before I played it in 1945’, he asserted five decades later, still smarting…”. Important to note: Pt. ".....Kaunteya Pratijaneehi na Mei Bhaktah pranashyati.." - The Gita 🎉 This Sanskrit Bhajan (devotinal poetry) has been composed almost 800-years ago, in the beginning of Bhakti era, by Shril Lilashuka Bilva Mangal Thakur Maharaj. Pandit Jasraj has very beautifully sung selected (choicest) verses from a literature of more than 300 sanskrit sholaks by the learned devotee of Govind. Pandit Jasraj has set a benchmark for the world of music and devotion, in this work. The legendary singing is beyond compare!!! Bilva Mangal Thakur, the scholar devotee (poet) has put the taste of transcendental sweetness in the childhood pastimes of Lord Mukundam, when His Holiness has been revealing the glories and all attractiveness, of Supreme Madhava. Yes, the mangalcharan (the starting first verse) Pandit ji has taken from "ashtakam", one of the eight verses by the same learned scholar of Bhakti Rasa (divine love, ecstasy) in the Sanskit.❤ (1) करारविन्देन पदार्विन्दं, मुखार्विन्दे विनिवेश यन्तम्। वटस्य पत्रस्य पुटे शयानं, बालं मुकुन्दं मनसा स्मरामि॥ Kararavinden padaravindam Mukharavinde viniveshayantam Vatasya patrasya pute shayanam Balam Mukundam manasa smarami I remember the infant Mukunda, Who sleeps inside a hollow Banyan leaf and Who by His lotus-hands, is putting His lotus-feet in His lotus-mouth. (2) श्री कृष्ण गोविन्द हरे मुरारे, हे नाथ नारायण वासुदेव। जिव्हे पिबस्वा अमृतं एतद एव, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ Shri Krishna govinda hare murare hey natha narayana vasudeva jihve pibasvamritam etad eva govinda damodara madhaveti. Shri Krishna! Govinda! Hari! Murari! O Lord, Narayana, Vasudeva! O tongue, please drink only this nectar-”Govinda, Damodara, Madhava!” (3) विक्रेतु कामा किल् गोपकन्या, मुरारि पादार्पित चित्त वृतिः। दधि आदिकं मोह वशाद् अवोचद्, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ vikretukama kil gop-kanya murari-padarpit-citt-vrittih dadhyadikam mohavashad avochad govind damodar madhaveti Though desiring (supposedly) to sell milk, dahi, butter, etc., the minds of the young gopis was so absorbed in the lotus feet of Krishna that instead of calling out “Milk etc. for sale,” they bewilderedly said, “Govinda!”, Damodara!”, and “Madhava!” (4) गृहे-गृहे गोपवधू कदम्बा:, सर्वे मिलित्वा समवाप्य योगम्। पुण्यानि नामानि पठन्ति नित्यं, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ grihe grihe gopa-vadhu-kadambah sarve militva samavaya-yoge punyani namani pathanti nityam govinda damodara madhaveti In house after house, groups of cowherd ladies gather on various occasions, and together they always chant the transcendental names of Krishna-”Govinda, Damodara, and Madhava.” (5) सुखं शयाना निलये निजेऽपि, नामानि विष्णोः प्रवदन्ति मर्त्याः। ते निश्चितं तन्मयतमां व्रजन्ति, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ sukham shayana nilaye nije ‘pi namani vishnoh pravadanti martyah te nishcitam tanmayatam vrajanti govinda damodara madhaveti Even the ordinary mortals comfortably resting at home who chant the names of Vishnu, “Govinda, Damodara,” and “Madhava,” certainly attain (not the apex donain, i.e. Golokam, but at least they get higher celestial position in Vaikunthas) the liberation of having a form of domain similar to that of the Lord. (6) जिह्वे सदैवं भज सुन्दराणि, नामानि कृष्णस्य मनोहराणि। समस्त भक्ताःअति विनाशनानि, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ jihve sadaivam bhaja sundarani namani krishnasya manoharani samasta-bhaktarti-vinashanani govinda damodara madhaveti O my tongue, just always worship these beautiful, enchanting names of Krishna, “Govinda, Damodara,” and “Madhava,” which destroy all the obstacles of the devotees. (7) सुख अवसाने इदमेव सारं, दुःखावसाने इदमेव ज्ञेयम्। देह अवसाने इदमेव जाप्यं, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ sukhavasane tu idam eva saram duhkhavasane tu idam eva geyam dehavasane tu idam eva japyam govinda damodara madhaveti This indeed is the essence (found) upon ceasing the affairs of mundane happiness. And this too is to be sung after the cessation of all sufferings. This alone is to be chanted at the time of death of one’s material body-”Govinda, Damodara, Madhava!” (8) श्री कृष्ण राधावर गोकुलेश, गोपाल गोवर्धन नाथ विष्णो। जिह्वे पिबस्वा अमृतं एतद एव, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ shri krishna radhavar gokulesh gopal govardhan-nath vishnoh jihve pibasva amritam etad eva govinda damodara madhaveti O tongue, drink only this nectar (of the names), “Shri Krishna, dearmost of Shrimati Radharani, Lord of Gokula, Gopala, Lord of Govardhana, Vishnu, Govinda, Damodara,” and “Madhava.” (9) त्वामेव याचे मम् देहि जिह्वे, समागते दण्डधरे कृतान्ते। वक्तव्यमं एवं मधुरम सुभक्तया, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ tvam eva yace mama dehi jihve samagate danda-dhare kritante vaktavyam evam madhuram su-bhaktya govinda damodara mAdhaveti O my tongue, I ask only this of you, that at my meeting the bearer of the sceptre of chastisement (Yamaraja), you will utter this sweet phrase with great devotion: “Govinda, Damodara, Madhava!” (10) जिह्वे रसज्ञे मधुरप्रिया त्वं, सत्यं हितं त्वां परमं वदामि। आवर्ण एतदाः (एथाः) मधुराक्षराणि, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ jihve rasgyne madhura priya tvam satyam hitam tvaam paramam vadaami aavarna yetha (etad+etaah) madhuraxaranni govinda damodara madhaveti O my childlike tongue, I know that you like the sweet taste very much, nevertheless, I am telling you that your true benefit is in encapsulating yourself within the holy veil of transcendentally sweet eternal names of govind damodar madhav *Addendum (परिशिष्टम्): [श्रीनाथ विश्वेश्वर विश्व मुर्ते श्री देवकीनन्दन दैत्य शत्रु । जिव्हे पिबस्वा अमृतम् एतद् एव, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ वक्तुम् समर्थोपि न वक्तिम् कश्चिद अहो जनानाम् व्यसनम् अभिमुख्यम् । जिव्हे पिबस्वा अमृतम् एतद् एव, गोविन्द दामोदर माधवेति॥ आलोक्य मातुः मुखम् अदेण स्तन्यम् पिबंतम् सरसी: रूहाक्षम् । सच्चिन्मयम् देवम् अनन्तरूपम् बालम् मुकुन्दम् मनसा(/मनोभिः) स्मरामि(/स्मरामः)॥] Raaga = Nat-Bhairav; Thaat (music notes scale type); Taal = Kaharva (Bhajani Theka); Time : Morning (6am-9am); Season : all seasons.❤ N.B. Nat Bhairav is basically a morning raaga. NAT-BHAIRAV is one of the few raagas which could be sung in all the seasons. @@shaligramnemane319 🙏🙏दिल ❤️ से धन्यवाद sir.. और ढेर सारा आभार और प्यार आपको!! आपकी रुचि गीत के रागों को जानने के बारे मे देख के अत्यंत खुशी हुई.. आखिर भारतीय संगीत की धरोहर है ये राग रागनीयां 🎹 जो गीत आपने मेंशन करा है film देवदास से वो बहुत ही कर्णप्रिये गीत है, इस गीत का original scale G sharp major है और इस गीत मे कोमल निषाद का प्रयोग दीखता है बहुताये मात्रा मे ,.इसमें ओर भी विकृत स्वर लगे हैँ जैसे कोमल ऋषभ ओर कोमल धैवत ओर कोमल निषाद भी यदा कदा उस हिसाब से मुझे इस गीत मे मिश्र खमाज़ के साथ पीलू राग की छाया दिखती है, वैसे भी filmi गाने किसी एक राग़ मे तो बने नहीं होते कुछ आपवाद को छोड कर 🙏🙏
