I like to do an underpainting l ke this with burnt sienna, burnt umber or Payne's grey, depending on the colors I'll be using in my painting. This really helps me get the right hue later on. But I think it would be best to do such a seperate value study before doing so. Thank you! 😊

Thanks for this wonderful demo. American Journey watercolor is so much better than 20 years ago because DaVinci revamped their paint formula around 2006. DaVini Paint Co is the manufacturer for American Journey.

I forgot to suggest that you could try grabbing a screen shot of the drawing...on a Mac, hold down the Command and Shift keys then press the number 4, then select the area of the screen you want and press return...

Well Pam...you cutie, and you paint like a demon. Wow fantastic technique...and we can see your resemblance in your Granddaughter...another cutie. If I may...the answer to the addition of the blue/green mid-tones is traditionally, where the skin is closer to the bone...less fat/flesh (hope that helps).

If the angle of the photo of the model is the same as that shown on the artist’s drawing, the viewers will understand the drawing and painting more easily.

That's the point! A simple image can be made into a piece of art if you know how. Also good for instruction to show the 'know how'. 😊 I have taken away a lot from this demo. One to watch repeatedly for technique reminders.
