Male gaze 🙄 just because someone is a male photographer doesn’t make them a pervert or a creep. There are plenty of good guys out there. I get looked at by women is that the “female gaze”. Are you going to cancel and judge some just because someone is a male photographer?

Serena and Roxy definitely cover this in the episode, but the term “male gaze” isn’t about labeling all male photographers or men in general as creepy or perverted. It refers to how women have historically been portrayed in media, often from a perspective that objectifies them, regardless of the photographer’s intentions. It’s about how society has conditioned us to perceive certain imagery, not an attack on individuals. And of course, not all male photographers shoot in this way. As for the “female gaze,” it focuses more on humanizing subjects rather than objectifying them. It’s not about canceling male photographers, but about encouraging more balanced perspectives in media. We’ve worked with plenty of amazing male photographers who are respectful and mindful of these dynamics.

Its normal to feel fear when there is a strong possibility of drowning or getting slammed onto a sharp reef. Its fine overcoming fear in some situations but in others like big wave surfing its potentially fatal as we have seen again and again. You can have a lot of fun surfing clean head high waves without risking a broken neck or worse.

💛 so many really positive inspiring insights, lessons, and reminders from this conversation. one particular note, i would like to say that i think it it so cool that Vahine mentioned motivating and inspiring girls AND boys, and that is one of the first and most memorable times i have heard the notion of females to motivate and inspire boys as well as girls :) also, the honest and open stories about the evolution and experience of advancing into something as significant as venturing into big waves is so cool, and so valuable, to understand that learning and doing and achieving such considerably challenging endeavors, includes so many variables and nuances (experienced at so called 'little' steps (which are not little at all in my opinion) even when paddling out and not taking waves), all of which contributes to the overall experiences, and that is another first time i have heard concisely and honestly shared, something i believe that most of us, if not all of us, experience in the process. thank you, ladies, and thank you roxy :)

Too bad I wasn't able to afford any of it cause it's one of my fave Roxy Collection ( my Chloe's fave collection too) My pic would have been the pink/blue pastel polar,Jacket and bibs witch corresponding beanie and mittens....every girls that own those are super lucky...I would have worn those for my first Snowboard season ever! Thanks Chloe and Roxy for making a trans-Girl dream!

❤ its only been six months and im still awaiting an invitation to the mermaid country club for some surfing, musical jamz, and ping pong with steph steph :) also, even though im stoked on my pink rook 15, which is sort of getting beat up even with my relative 'care', and want more hand me downs, etc, i also would very much like to ride this board and maybe dhd could make me a proper pink tom carrol color version as well at some point when im rolling in dough to pay for it :) since thats my color :) also, i would wear a pair of steph stephs matching board shorts, and whatever other suitable stuff she has for me :). i feel like a broken record, but whatever. maybe someday dear steph steph :) maybe someday :) in the meantime, i keep training :) (moving slower and hurting extra bad today from yesterdays events).
