So the switches require AC power but there doesn't have to be a direct connection between the switch and the fan, since it's wirelessly controlled?
@madebyjnd4 күн бұрын
Yes. The controller and fan get power from the same breaker but the controller is otherwise only linked via some sort of radio signal.

Where did you purchase this door and the hardware?
@madebyjnd6 күн бұрын
The materials I purchased were the wood, hinges, cables, pulleys and screws. The corrugated siding was left over from the roof of the house, the roller bearings were recovered from some equipment I’d scrapped years go. I’ve made a dozen videos about the engineering of this door type, look for me on Made by J&D.

I'm having trouble finding a stop nut for the top pulley for a O.I.T table top drill press from 1983. Any ideas on how to find such a thing. The nut that was on there is slightly to large and I believe was kluged on. It's really hard to tell if the press threads are in metric or SAE. I've measure the major & minor diameters of the threads at the top end of the spindle and they are 17.12mm & 16.68mm respectively. So I bought a 17mm 1.5 pitch tap & die on Amazon thinking that I could somehow make a stop nut. Well, I'm off somehow... maybe it's a 11/16" nut..... then I got approx. 20 threads per inch by measuring. I contacted Grizzly, JET and some other drill press manufacturers but they said that their stop nuts are left-hand threaded. My threads are right-hand.(I know right... who does that?). I'm starting to think that maybe I got the thread pitch wrong and it is something like 1.3. Any suggestions? I enjoyed your video. Thanks.
@madebyjnd21 күн бұрын
I looked up OIT (Omaha Industrial Tools...maybe??) which were probably made in Taiwan. If that is true, then you're dealing with metric threads. Perhaps 17 mm is right but 1.5 pitch is wrong and 1.3 is the way to go. Not much difference between the two. Is there any chance that you could try to clean up the threads with a file? You'd still need a nut to match. Other than that, I got nuthin!

@madebyjnd21 күн бұрын
If your leak is from the wheel drive units then I reckon it is a simple seal replacement. The input shaft on mine had a piece of cord wrapped around it and it took out the seal. Good luck.

@@madebyjnd Thank You. It's actually the bottom perimeter seal of the B & S 28HP. I have the complete set so I can pull the engine off and do it if my skinny butt can lift it without dropping it.
@madebyjnd20 күн бұрын
Perimeter seal? I'm guessing you don't mean the output shaft seal but the crankcase seal. Yes, that is where mine was leaking. The gasket had slipped during assembly, maybe at the factory, not sure. Nearly all the cooling fins were clogged with oily dirt...how the motor hadn't burned up is beyond me. I think it must have overheated but miraculously it still runs strong.
@rickblanchette20 күн бұрын
@@madebyjnd I think factory as well. All the crankcase bolts were very loose and once the gasket leaks no matter how tight you get them will still leak.

try powder coating, it`s even thickness and hard, and will build it up like the vinyl or plastic is
@madebyjnd26 күн бұрын
I will look into that. There are some powder coating companies out here, I'll get their opinion.
@madebyjnd24 күн бұрын
I checked with a business in town, he reckoned that regular powder coat would be too brittle and crack off under pressure. He is using a teflon impregnated product that he is applying to other mechanisms that have to deal with pressure and abrasion.

Plastidip

I thought about plastidip but it is pretty soft and runny to apply. I'd have trouble creating a coating that has a consistent thickness.

Not sure I’ve got the skill to do this job. There are some tools I need and the Kubota dealer said I could damage one of the seals if careless, may just keep adding oil occasionally and let it ride awful late in the ball game for me. Tks for the vid
@madebyjnd2 ай бұрын
It does take commitment and a large set of snap ring pliers but more time than talent. As far as damaging a seal, that is always a risk and I really didn’t notice these were harder to install than any other. Still, only you know what you’re willing to try. My leaks were bad and progressively getting worse, making a mess anywhere it was parked for a few minutes.

An easy way to automate the door opening would to be to attach a remote controlled winch to the cable and mount on the wall up and out of the way. A small 2500 lbs winch would be small and do the trick. Harbor freight here in the US sells one for $79.99. Just a thought.
@madebyjnd2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. However, the difficulty in automating this door is not the raising and lowering but the unlocking, pushing open the first few inches/centimetres and then pulling shut and locking.

Thanks for the video. But you didn't show the wiring of wall control and the remote.
@madebyjnd3 ай бұрын
Yeah, it was hit or miss at best. Interpreting the wiring instructions so that I could have two switches, mounted next to each other and using a common power feed, control fans that are spaced 20 feet apart almost did my head in. It was much simpler once I understood that a single switch can control any number of fans. The fans are fed power directly from a breaker as are the switches…fan operation is via a radio signal from the switch. I wanted the ability to control the fans independently so I kept both switches. Getting the west fan paired with the west switch and vice versa was the really difficult part. The fan not being paired needed to be disconnected from power.

Thanks Bob. My back seems right already but I'm following doctors orders and limiting exertion until six weeks post op has elapsed.
