My biggest complaint about Valheim is that you can only roll one version back from the current version. My sibs and I once had a modded server, and then Valheim updated twice in quick succession, which broke the server as none of us could roll back to the version it ran. Rolling one version back, and then updating the server to that version broke the mods. I had a single player world that was having the time of my life on. I was a building fiend on this world. I built a large village, had a beautiful farm, and was going crazy with build ideas. And then Mistlands dropped. The world wouldn't load in the new patch, so I rolled back to pre-Mistlands. A few days later, they dropped a patch, and now I couldn't play my beloved world at all. I was so disgusted over the whole affair that I stopped playing the game entirely until recently. Don't get me wrong; I LOVE Valheim. It's one of my absolute favorite games of all time. I just really REALLY wish Iron Gate would follow Minecraft in this and let you pick which version of the game to run. It would also give modders time to update their mods.

Me and the boys, we are playing Valheim around Christmas. We hop on a karve, have a good drink, and a good time over Discord. After about two months, we're done with the current content. The buildings become too big and laggy, and the cycle is completed. We're about to turn 40, but for the last few years, we've been as hyped for the Christmas and Valheim season as we were when we were 10.

For anyone watching the series storage is now centralised so you don’t need to visit every source (eg extraction building) to pickup the relevant material. All you need is a storage building in range of the buildings and everything that’s produced is put in there. Similarly when you build as long as you’re in range of a storage building you can access the resources. Kinda makes the storage crates in each production building useless. All in all a great QOL update though.

i tried this game solo, and it was quite sad seeing my base feeling so empty. After that, i started playing multiplayer and everything just becomes more alive. Because of this, I think I agree that the multiplayer experience should be improved greatly.

I usually only play video games in winter time. Got a list of games I bought at discount, never played them. Every winter I look and think which one I want to play. Every time for the past 3-4 years I started a new game of Valheim

Hold on just a minute, let's dispel this thousands of people being online simultaneously on Minecraft. People think of servers like Hypixel and have these false impressions that it's one singular server handling it. When the truth is hypixel is 40+ servers. When you teleport from game to game or area to area, you are literally changing servers. Their environment will automatically load balance between games to prevent lag. I can guarantee you Minecraft has the same issue you do at 25 to 50 people at a time, possibly worse because Minecraft is a single threaded game. Your statement about valheim being more laggy with multiple people than Minecraft is an unfair and uneducated assumption.

The part where you defend the game is actually pretty cringe "You get free access to the updates." Um, no. I literally paid for a unfinished product and funded their development, of course the updates will be free, anything else would be scammy.

Upon seeing some friends play the game I specifically went out of my way to not get it, because I knew how immediately obsessed I would be. A few years later a buddy from college talked me into playing it. Thousands of hours later, wish I had started sooner. Cheers Valheim.

Epic Loot mod make me come back to the game, and now i can't play without it , but in multiplayer there is so much lag in vanilia and even more whit this mod, we must build out of the view of each player to be sure to play confortabely. This game is awesome, fun, relax and realy enjoyable ! i love it... but dam multiplayer lag ... please IRON GATE fixe the net-code !!!

uhhh... I gotta ask. How many people are on your server 😅 That's any engineers nightmare right there. I play with 3 friends usually and the game works perfectly. I don't think most people have anymore than that, please don't spread fake news.

I feel you missed how poorly optimised the game is for, frankly? Very silly reasons: They never updated their rendering solution so have performance sinks like not being able to do occlusion culling, graphics being determined by item for disabling based on distances, and literally so the structural calculations per frame... You mention lag... but the problem with Valheim is it is built on VERY shoddy foundations (i say this with love). They CANT work on it like you hope, as the problem is literally foundational. Noone ever talks about this when talking about Valheim, and i honestly think someone needs to, in good faith, as devs fall into this trap where, if noone specifically calls out that they cant shy away from foundational issues, they trick themselves into thinking its okay.

That performance optimization? I'm sure it's coming.

I play daily if I can. Ashlands SUCKS. Insanely difficult. I thought the Mistlands update was hard. Ashlands is just ridiculous. At one point I just cheated and maxxed my character out. Didn't help. Just quit for a while then rolled a new character and started over.

Follow up!

When you haven't even touched ashlands yet with 450 hours because mistlands is such a brick wall. I've fully beaten it but on repeat playthroughs there's just not enough dungeons, the dungeons that are there don't have enough of the key items you need, why must I fight steep ass mountains AND the mist, and ain't no reason to get 1 star spammed in my first 30 mins of the biome. I've gone through like 7 dungeons and I have 6 black cores and 4 of the pieces for the boss (if you can't tell I've been recently trying to get through it again)

If I buy a key will be for one month or more I got to play.

I wish they'd fix the multiplayer. Servers with >10 people are nearly unplayable.

I was SO in...until you start running defense for their release schedule. 1-I reject the notion of praising a dev for doing the bare minimum unless their product is airtight. I'll respect Save the Astronaut for being upfront and all that other nonsense like lack of mtx (what would they even need that money for, lmao, that's pure double-dipping) 2-Yes, they are free to do with their money as they please, as am I with my opinion. I'm not gonna wring my hands and act like I'm not upset because I have just as much of a right to complain about it. 3-I paid precisely for a complete game. As it was back then plains was NOT a complete experience, nor is mistlands for having a just-added system that FEELS like the first step on a ladder and while ashlands is slightly better, I really feel like a biome populated by mostly reskins, reskins with like one new attack and charred warriors and reskins but they are less of a glass cannon this time and reskins but they're ridable now is REALLY what we should be expecting of a final area. 4-the combat is just...ass? Like there's a couple of literally useless combat skills (fists and spears, though that only counts for one-handed spears) and you are at a DISADVANTAGE for being above your enemy in a skirmish like we haven't heard all about the folly of fighting on inclines. And all because of what? Well, low-budget start and a lack of dev time to brush things up (GIVE ME MORE FISTS YOU COWARDS) but more importantly a system that can at best be considered alpha gameplay placeholder should NOT be present in a full release. All things considered, Valheim needs a good, solid once-over before it's ready to be fully released. And I doubt the (assumed) ocean update that will come before the final EA update of the deep north will account for that. And while I obviously don't condone people going to tell IGS how to do their job in a very rude manner, I can and should be free to verbalize my misgivings about how they handle the game and implicitly the money I paid them, at least partly, on the promise of an experience. Valheim is a good game but with glaring flaws and I just wish the fanbase wasn't so sycophantic sometimes.

The Mistlands were miserable. It's not necessarily the enemies but the pairing of the enemies with the landscape. It takes 3x as long to go anywhere, you can't see anything and you can barely fight things because of the elevation changes. It just brings frustration. The Ashlands are much better even if they are technically more difficult.

everyone talks good about it, same as the dwarf mining game, but i am sure now it's all lies 😢 the game is just built on addiction, and made with lazyness .. case and point the repetitive design and addiction mechanics
