You are right. What's the logic of switching the rod from one hand to another after casting?? I never did that when I was using spinning reels. Why would I do that when using a baitcaster? Hold your rod with the dominant hand from end to end and reel with the other hand, both with spinning and baitcasting reels.

They aren't "left hand baitcasters", they are "left hand reel" baitcasters I think a lot of anglers are confused by the wording 'right hand' and just think that's what they should use because they are right handed... I can not understand how anyone could continuously cast and switch hands - I would sick of that after about half an hour of fishing.

This is a Calcutta 31hg. Also, not a dumb question. This reel is going to last you your lifetime. You’ll be able to hand it down to your kids, and possibly grandkids. You can literally get an old one from the early 2000s and it’s going to be as smooth as a new one. There’s no plastic components on this and the build quality and tolerance to the absolute highest level. I cast further and way more accurately than any DC reel. I’ve had them all. They always go up in value so if you buy one at a retail price, you’re never losing money. When you’re reeling in, you can’t even feel the line because of how smooth it is. It’s just the absolute best when it comes to baitcasters.

Playing the pattycake-pattycake hand-switching game for right handed anglers to use a “right handed” reel has always seemed nonsensical to me. What’s even worse is when you have bizarro anglers who do the same thing with a spinning rod and have the handle mounted on the right side of the reel instead of the left. There is a pretty popular channel host here name Fishaholic, who does that and it drives me bonkers how irrational it is. The only reasons for buying a right-handed reel if you are right handed is because the vendor doesn’t carry the left-handed version of that model or charges more for it.
@Polo_1874 ай бұрын
Man I had no idea bait casters were labeled opposite like this lol As someone who is right-handed I would naturally expect the handle of the reel to be on the left. To hold the rod with my right like a spinning reel. So it's referring to which hand holds the reel, not the rod. Glad I know now.

Great video. Thanks. In my case like many did, I started with a right hand bait caster. Due to relocating to NYC. I didn’t fish for years and 18 years ago I moved back to Florida and started using spinning reels using left hand retrieve A few years back I decided to give a bait caster a try again and realized that the correct way for me was to continue what I am doing with a spinning setup. So left retrieve is the way to go for me. Your video is spot on. Thanks again. GOD Bless

As a european using left handed bc reels for about 15 years i NEVER understood why anyone righthand dominant would want to use a right hand retrieve bc. I've had quite some disussions with americans and i never found their arguments convincing. I've tried right handed bcs and it just felt plain wrong - in fact, it felt so wrong that i not even wanted to "train" it (argument was: use it a while and you'll feel right!). Also that you have to switch hands to cast, sorry, thats just st*pid. Funniest thing is that the same people use their spinning combos with left hand retrieve. I maybe get the point when you need cranking power for big saltwater fish, but as long as i'm catching fish in freshwater, i want to have the best possible control over my rod, the cast, the bait, the hookset and the drill - and that's with the rod in my right hand.

I find it funny how many folks act like their non dominant hand is limp or something. It’s not hard to either cast left handed, or switch hands while casting, nor make subtle movements with your non dominant. I feel like a lot of you act like the butler on Scary Movie. 😂

As someone very new to bate casters, I thought I bought the wrong one 😂 I ordered a right handed caster and couldn’t figure out why I was using my left hand. I feel like for someone like me who is learning mostly by myself, not using friends set ups. The fact that I caught that weird feeling shows casters are labeled wrong. So now I have a very nice set up, that feels completely awkward to use and I can’t wait to get a left handed caster now! Also! Man you deserve way more subs your channel is awesome!

@ChrisWhite.fishing5 ай бұрын
The absurdity of right side crank and hand switching becomes more evident when you see how lame their lure articulations are: most use reel handle to do this, while squared away individuals use their rod both for playing fish more effectively, as well as more finesse twitching. Right-side cranking is mistake that gets inherited.

Good video. I'm what's called cross dominant or mixed-handed so I do different things with different hands. I'm new to fishing and kind of feel confused because both left and right don't feel right at the moment. I think I'm going to use the left-handed since my power is in my right hand/arm while my finesse is (writing, using a fork) is done with my left hand

4:52 ok now your just being a petty. You just say that you are 6ft 1 in 215lbs that works out and your wittle hand can't handle 1-1.5 oz difference in the reel weight is the funniest thing I've ever heard. You even said you don't see others having this problem yet you've had 2 different reels and still have that problem.. I hate to sound rude brother but that's 100% user error. It does take time to get the dc release cause the brake system ain't like your regular bc reel, they've made it to be the easiest to use for ppl who might not know how to use their thumb on a bc reel. But to each his own it's like a knife, it could be considered the best handle ergos ever but if it don't feel good in your hand we'll then obviously it's not the one for you. You obviously seem to comprehend how to use a bc reel so ain't no reason to have almost 300$ reel if you don't love it. Good luck bud
