Hey Andy, thanks so much for the kind words! I haven't done the White Mountains road trip I'm afraid, but can for sure give you advice on the places you've mentioned. Looking at the two trips, I'd probably go for the Boston to Bar Harbor route as you'll pass through more towns/touristy places along the coast and there looks to be more places to stop at versus the White Mountains. We only spent a few hours in P'town and I think one night/one full day would be enough. We didn't get to go to Martha's Vineyard/Nantucket, but if you're in the area (around P'town) I'd recommend hopping over as I wish we'd had time to visit. I think as well a lot of the coastal/tourist areas can be quite seasonal and will be fully open in the summer/after Memorial Day so I would double-check dates-wise just to make sure it's not a wasted journey. Bar Harbor to P'town is definitely do-able in one day (around 7 hours of driving) but when we did the reverse of this, we stopped at Boston for two days, and spent a night in Portland before making it to Bar Harbor to break the trip up. You could perhaps leave P'town early in the morning, drive 4 hours to Portland, grab lunch and check out the town and then drive the remaining 4 hours to Bar Harbor to get there by the evening. hey! we arrived on a saturday and left on a monday at the end of April and didn't find it too crowded or rowdy for a weekend. Definitely recommend PP Insula if you're on a budget. There's not much to it, but we had a spacious private room and the location was really amongst everything. We had no issues staying here at all and would happily stay again!

thanks so much! for the area we stayed in (sairee beach), it was very easy to walk everywhere but the roads are busy with bikes etc. If you want to explore more of the island you'll need a bike or taxi, but you could do a day of exploring everywhere and then mainly stick to Sairee Beach for the rest of your time

Hey! Hopefully the below explains it better, if not let me know and I’ll go into more detail. So basically the Kandy to Ella train is always packed, so it can be very difficult to get a seat. So what we did is catch the train from Peradeniya that was heading to Kandy. This train ends in Kandy as the “final stop” and a lot of people disembark here (but you can actually stay on board). This same train then goes from Kandy to Ella. So this is your chance to grab a seat as you are already on the train. We even asked people “are you getting off in Kandy” and if they said yes, we stood by those seats. In terms of time table your best bet is to check the website/ask at the counter for the most up to date times. But just be aware that trains in Sri Lanka aren’t known for being on time. Hope this helps!

Amazing, you'll have a great time! We loved The Angels Restaurant and Three Sisters Restaurant near Klong Khong Beach for dinner. For breakfast/brunch Hidden Tree Cafe is great too!
