I started out with 1 orchid about 5 years ago, and now have 15. Last year they all surprise me and they all flowered at the same time. You don’t need a degree to learn how to care for plants. ❤

I'm currently up to 4. They still flower around the time I received them. Mother's Day and my birthday.

Thank you. The leaves look healthy. I would be interested to know how it's going in a few weeks. I did not know that it's possible to remove the root covers. Maybe only if the roots are in a bad condition? All the best.
@TexasHomesteaders4 күн бұрын
Yes. You'd only remove the velamen if it's rotten/mushy like these were. Slides off real easy. Some people treat with a viruscide or hydrogen peroxide after doing so. I had to remove a yellow leaf a couple of weeks ago which was when I knew I had to repot it. I'll update when it flowers which I believe will be in December.

Thanks for posting. I just installed one today. Just curious…. Did you ever go back and measure the temp the next day, to compare before/after install?

We have and it does make a difference. Our hallway used to have warm/cold drafts and it no longer does. Our electric bill continues to be lower with each thing we do like this too.

I need to do this to my house. Kind of crazy how in just two years the price has doubled for the same insulation material. I'm thinking about getting a few quotes from installers as I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't want to cause problems that later will cost more to fix. I have also seen a few videos of people spreading the insulation by hand in the attic and raking it to get it even.
@TexasHomesteaders6 күн бұрын
We will have to hand spread some over the bathroom that we haven't remodeled yet but our attic is so small, there's no way we could do the whole house.

It is very satisfying. You don't realize how dirty your driveway is until someone starts pressure washing it. Those front steps look brand new if you ignore the cracks. Lol

Cellulose is the cheapest low-grade crap that you can put into your attic , with time and humidity , you will have yourself one big block of rodent cage liner , not to mention the rodent urine absorption factor !! Congratulations you have just created yourself one great big RATS NEST !! Just because you move to the country doesn't mean you're not still in the ghetto !!!! Mentally

Why would you NOT get rid of all the weeds in the previous walkway you made before putting a video on KZbin? I would have, but I guess that's just my opinion.🤔
@TexasHomesteaders15 күн бұрын
Because unlike most channels, we like to keep it REAL and not pretend everything is peaches and cream only showing you what is perfect and pretty. Anyone that builds one of these will need to know/see that grass and weeds can and do grow up between the cracks. Sometimes we are busy working on remodelling our cottage we bought for $50k and don't have time to pull weeds and since we don't use roundup, it's a chore. That's something you aren't going to see on a video profiting from promoting this product. Following this video, I did a video on whether or not vinegar and salt/dawn really kills weeds. I couldn't have made that video had I not let the weeds grow.

Great information!!! I also just learned (tonight) and why I found your short about sprouting beans for better nutrition! I wonder if that would work on old beans that we soaked over night with baking soda???? Do you know?
@TexasHomesteaders15 күн бұрын
I've never tried to sprout beans that have been soaked in baking soda. I have tried to sprout old beans that were about 10 years old and about 1/4 of them were successful.

I wanna laugh, but I can feel your pain. I did my garage in the summer, but now wanting to do my workshop. I’m waiting till fall for the cooler temps. That heat will kill you. Thanks for showing the operation. Definitely a messy job. I think your wife will think twice about helping out. 😂

Wife here. I think I have an idea of what it is like to be tarred and feathered after that job. Lol. Sweat and insulation do not go well together. I would never repeat in the summer and it's a maybe in the winter.

Add No salt until after cooking the beans until they are soft.
@TexasHomesteaders27 күн бұрын
It's not that simple. That doesn't work on 10 year old beans. Many preppers are relying on beans as a long term survival strategy and then will realize those beans won't get soft. This is the solution.
@johnjanuary295827 күн бұрын
@@TexasHomesteaders My suggestion is in addition to yours. Agree we should Use baking soda in the soak and cook the beans in a crock pot.

Thank you. I was thinking what we would miss the most if we couldn't get it any more. Milk, cheese, butter and eggs would be top of that list. I've got plenty of dried egg powder, dried milk so I guess I could make cheese from powdered or canned milk. I've yet to try it.. I suppose clarifying butter would be the best way to keep it for a long time so I'm going to try that too.

I have a lovely nest in my front yard here in Mississippi. We watched her finish and leave and that was in May. It's almost the end of August so I figure babies will be digging out soon. My chickens free range. I'm scared they might dust bathe in the dirt around the nest. Should I build some type of cage around it? I read to make a brush pile nearby for the babies to navigate too quickly. Help
