Gosh, the 2005 version is so much better. Everything from the score to the acting and cinematography. The chemistry between Matthew and Keira is off the charts in comparison to this couple.

Colin Firth took this part…and owned it. There has never been, and never will be, someone who plays Darcy as well as he. It was like the part was written for him, he will never be surpassed.

These lines are directly from Jane Austen. This adaptation follows the book the closest. That's why it's the best.

My favorite is when Caroline is trying her usual condescending nonsense and Darcy just turns to her and barks "What?" It was the perfect way to imply "are you kidding me with this shit" while embarrassing her by forcing her to repeat it or just remain uncomfortably silent.

Hard to believe that snivelling, weazel Mr Collins played "Marcus Tullius Cicero" in the TV series Rome. Two such diametrically opposite characters.

Like a lot of writers. She had an acute imagination and chose to live vicariously through her characters. Jane Austin was a genius and so prolific. I loved her books.

Elizabeth in the book has a manner which is a mixture of archness and sweetness. She is incapable of giving offense. This Elizabeth is a bit too rude.

Anna Chancellor's acting in the first clip is so good. The subtle flinches when she thinks hers could be the fine eyes and then the sadness when he says it's Elizabeth's. She looks like she turned around to cry. I'd love to see a POV of the story from Caroline. I hate her character but it would be fascinating.

I studied P&P for my O Levels some 50 years ago and it has always been one of my favorite novels - and this film version is DEFINITIVE IMO! But I have always wondered at Darcy's self-described 'resentful' temperament which seems such an odd choice of words - but with Colin's delivery - I wonder if he's not suddenly thinking of how he handled the dreadful debacle of his young sister and the dreaded Wickham? Such divine retribution when at Pemberly, and Miss Bingly's goading of Elizabeth re: Wickham, he half rises, not knowing whether to interfere on Georgiana's behalf or Elizabeth's??? And boom Elizabeth shows exactly what she's made of and intervenes with a blade of steel in ivory velvet on G's behalf! AH, bliss! Perfection!

She's a very negative person in general and tiresome enough for that reason alone. And yes, Darcy begins the story this way too but it's pretty common for people to be strongly off-put by flaws in others that they themselves possess.

the little rift between lizzie and darcy at 3:14 is so entertaining and the chemistry is strong. these both can one up each other very well. elizabeth have upper hand in her conversations and darcy too talks reason. these both are ppl with striking chemistry. their marriage must have been interesting after the end, the characters balance eo.
