Um, Stas played drums with the Johnnie Bomba Orchestra in the mid to late 40s before having his own band. There is a whole story and I have the photos.

My father, Ray Galen, played the trumpet in the Mattie Madura Orchestra in the 1950s and 1960s. I wonder, are the band members names listed on the recording?

Loved this - I am Barbara Lyskawa - my dad was Wesoly Stas. He was a real hoot and he really loved sharing his music and antics with the people.

First of all, WOPA did not broadcast live music, it was all pre-recorded. The live music was from the dance halls. Second, it wasn't Chet who was associated with sugar, it was Uncle Henry Cukierka. His intro was something like " 240 pounds (that's an eighth of a ton, more or less) of sweet sugar, Uncle Henry Cukierka". I grew up listening to this station every Sunday. I can even still recite the Adams Furniture commercial!

Alice was my mother. Her original recordings were on 78 rpm records. In the early '60s she also recorded an LP. She passed away in 2009.

I'm not good at polish, but grandmother and her younger sister were. They would laugh at jokes from a Polish relative. They said, "we wouldn't get it." LOL
