I am astounded DC is ok with Bob Kane, a narcissist, a wannabe, a fake and a selfish thief representing the backbone of who they are. Batman represents justice, while Kane is famous for deceit, theft, forgery, even murder, etc. DC supports super-villains, rather than true heroes, how sad and twisted...

Artist Bob Kane created Batman, and writer Bill Finger did not. Bill suggested a makeover to the character which worked, but that hardly made him an artist/creator overnight. Actually without Superman, there would have been no Batman, anyway. The company just wanted a followup to Superman, and Kane came up with it inside of one weekend. Yet even since then he's been treated like a villain because he didn't go into business as a one man "credit Bill" promoter, which is nonsense.

Bob Kane, in an ABC TV Special, "Why is Batman Forever," took full credit for creating the Riddler who was created by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang and NOT Bob Kane!

Jim Steranko became my favorite artist after I saw my first Nick Fury cover on Strange Tales. I once owned every comic he ever did and the entire Shadow paperback set, that he did the covers for. Even some of the other paperbacks he did covers for. Got to meet him, years ago. Had him sign the History of Comics vol. 2 and my copy of O"Ryann's Odyssey portfolio (given away at the Detroit Triple Fan Fair of 1970). He was a treat to listen to and meet! Steranko will always be number 1 with me. Thanks for sharing this with us, for it shows how much Steranko cares about comics and those that make them.

Yes while kane is credited as the creator of batman, his first depiction of the character is dooky booty as hell and it would have barely seen the light of day if finger didn’t come in and give it the timeless look it still closely represents to this very day. Look up the original depiction of batman, kane’s vs. finger’s. Kane is a scumbag and could have at least given him credit as being the co creator if not the creator which is the title he definitely deserves as finger’s creation is very near to the timeless iconic image we all know and love to this very day as the batman, while kane’s look was that of a throway garbage hero that would probably get a couple issues and flop lol

Back in the 1970s, I mail ordered some comics from Bill Finger; they were probably reference issues or extras copies he got while working. I'm glad that I was able to help get some money to him, if only a few bucks. I wish I had kept my cancelled purchase check with his signature on it. I never thought about such things back then when I was an early teenager.

Kane did eventually give finger credit. From wikipedia In 1989, Kane acknowledged Finger as "a contributing force" in the character's creation, and wrote, "Now that my long-time friend and collaborator is gone, I must admit that Bill never received the fame and recognition he deserved. He was an unsung hero ... I often tell my wife, if I could go back fifteen years, before he died, I would like to say. 'I'll put your name on it now. You deserve it.'" Comics historian Ron Goulart has referred to Batman as the "creation of artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger".

@@DrWhom The guy was so lucky to have Bill Finger, Jerry Robinson, Dick Sprang and others to do most of the work from the word go and he should acknowledge that and thank many later artists and writers who ensured that the awful Sheldon Moldoff comics were not the last we heard of the character. But - I believe no-one has ever denied that he came up with the Batman/Bat-man name and therefore at least a vague starting off point for the character. He was a far cannier negotiator when it came to royalties than those that pointed the way, too. So a tiny bit of credit goes to him. Hard to admire him though.

He left after OMD was published, and even refused to sign the last issue, absolute legend. He proved you can tell amazing stories with an adult and married Peter Parker, but sadly, Marvel will never allow it, and Joe Quesada is a hack who destroyed the character and everything he stands for, not only with OMD, but also with Sins Past... It hurts me that JMS's run is mostly remember for those two atrocities he had no control over instead of the awesome little stories we had in the middle.

He died and now everyone discredits him sad and fake just like media. He was friends with stan lee they would go eat dinner together. Stan was been here since before dc was even called DC. Taking all the credit for coming up with a name for the best superhero of all time. Bob came up with the name but Bill actually designed Batman’s costume and his other side characters. Yet Bob took all the credit away from Bill, and only gave him some credit after Bill died.

think about it... what could Moldoff have said (all true) that would not have led folks to say, oh well, it must be sour grapes, there must be two sides to the story, etc. "I have nothing to say about him" really is the _only_ thing you can say about someone who has fucked you over like that.

How do you reboot it? It’s like saying you’re going to reboot breaking bad. Reboots work on episodic things, not on a 5 year story arc that we’ve seen. Even if you make it state of the art effects and cutting edge visuals, the story has been told. 2 spin offs failed, just leave it alone and enjoy it for what it was

To be honest about JMS's run. It maybe didn't have the thrill of spider man's missions and saving people. But he made MJ and Peter closer and his run had the best Pete-Mj romance undeniably. And unfortunately, Quesada royally fucked up spider man comics with 1. Sins past 2. One more day, the only thing remotely good about this was the confirmation of Peter and MJs love by mephisto and it is hard to digest the fact that most of the stories post OMD could have happened with them married to each other. And now Spencer has retconned OMD in #60 (Not gonna spoil it) and I hope we have a proper conclusion to Kindred. @Steve M, I suggest you start reading it after OMD, cuz there might be a surprise in the current run.
