A pleasant form of paresthesia, it has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia and may overlap with frisson. In simpler terms, it means a relaxing or calming sound

@@hockeycoach1on1 I have a horse with a really swollen knee. Would like for you to share what actions I should take to help him recover and get back to working.
@hockeycoach1on1
@hockeycoach1on1 8 ай бұрын
You can use a medicated poultice on the knee with ice 🧊cold water/iodine mix. Use a cotton wrap over the top of the poultice just like the lower leg treatment in the video. Cover the poultice/wrap with a pressure bandage so it helps move the fluid out of the knee joint. Will probably have to secure with tape at the base so it doesn’t slip down. No more than 12 hours maximum then remove and look and feel for heat.
@hockeycoach1on1
@hockeycoach1on1 8 ай бұрын
Be careful not to over tighten the pressure wrap on the joint. You should still be able to get a finger behind the wrap and the no bow cotton pads. Use a 16”-18” hind leg no bow so your above & below the joint. Horse should not be allowed to run around, stall confinement is the best. So day/night at first until swelling goes down then, overnight with limited outside movement. Hand walk at first then undersaddle at the walk for no more than 15 minutes initially. When turning don’t make sharp turns , you don’t want lateral stress on the joint. Walk the horse so the stride goes foams not to the side. Depending on what’s really going on you’ll know in a few days if a vet needs to look at it. Always check for heat and monitor the swelling. Hopefully there’s not to much or any lameness in movement. You can also use 100x Osteo-Max product, I’ve had good success using it.

Hi! I’m adopting a small Belgian from a rescue...the lovely rescuer has suggested a hackamore as his last job before hitting the kill pen (he’s a healthy, sound 15 yo) was at a dude ranch...lots of her rescues suffer broken teeth and other bit injuries so I’m all for this change. I would love to see more on working with a horse switching from bit to hackemore...thanks! Loved this video!
@hockeycoach1on1
@hockeycoach1on1 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, that's great, as you can well imagine the transfer back is very simple as the hackamore works through two handed application just like riding with a snaffle. You can also teach the horse how to go one handed with the application of your seat and legs, basically riding through the saddle. Thank you very much for the comment.

Specify. It is a mechanical hackamore. Saying hackamore is too generalized. Because there is also the traditional hackamore that does not have leverage.

I love side pulls..I had a national champion western pleasure mare, who I put back into a side pull as she was just too sensitive to any bit - the nose pressure worked great for her - she rode all by seat anyway - but she collected up great with the side pull with the rawhide nose band with real soft hands for a lead change or something, anything in her mouth just made her not be fully relaxed. Real shame you can't show in them - really stupid rules that way. Btw, this mare you have looks a bit off in front...and just looks touchy in front or she is an odd/stiff mover...

I have no intention on competing. I just want to be the best, most capable rider I can be. I really appreciate what you are doing. I acquired a mare a few years ago that was very uneducated. I have taken her as far as I can at this point(way better than how I got her but far from good). This motivates me because I am completely fascinated with all of the moves I see you perform. Unfortunately without training, I just can't achieve some of it. Thanks for sharing.

You can use your hands just like a basic one ring snaffle bit...side pulls are just about direct pressure with no leverage mechanisms so is about as uncomplicated as it gets. Some horses do absolutely great in them especially when they are the real sensitive types. Make sure they are fitted properly - not too low. So you can use your hands like a snaffle with the side-pull so is different from the bosal hackamore, in which you need to use your hands/ride differently. And, therefore is one of the reasons I really like them. I like the sidepulls with the rawhide noseband - you get a bit more light feel but you can still ride with very soft hands. Plain leather is good for youngsters.
