Can't the degree requirements be adjusted by racial background so that equity in graduation is reached, much in the same way that admissions are scaled for racial background ?

Equity doesn’t change the goalpost; it facilitates the student’s starting point and journey so that everyone has an equal chance to achieve said goal. Changing the degree plan requirements is probably not the best approach to equity because students should leave with the same knowledge and skills as their peers. Changing their requirements (especially based on areas that already experience discrimination) would only exacerbate the issue of inequity.

We are not allowed to criticize women for anything, including being pokey in the bathroom. Likewise, we are not allowed to compliment men, including being speedy in the bathroom.

Hearing about the 'birth' of academic advising as a field of study is fascinating. More importantly, the review of approaches as linked to different theories on advising was helpful for helping us advisors formulate better approaches for our students.
