If any choom comes across this and wants to keep the car, there's a mod called 'Claim Vehicles' on Nexus that lets you keep the cars you steal, and can also get the 'Vehicle Customizer (stolen vehicles edition)' mod to then customize the cars you've klepped.

Its called lagswitch, and your right best thing to do is either leave or just stay back and let them come to you, i use lagswitch myself and can say for certain if u wait back and dont push it will be alot harder for them to time when and when not to switch it on
