I remember the floods, I was in the fire service at the time. We had commandeered boats from Tredegar house boating lake in Newport and used them in Risca to carry people to dry land. Four of us were rowing a boat to the north end of the town where there were some new houses built in a dip to make sure everyone was Ok. We passed a woman stood on a bank above the water level, she shouted at us "get off my land", we replied we were checking the houses mentioned above. She replied " serves them right for building there" we couldn't believe her attuite to the plight of others.

Thanks to our leaders and the people not respecting the area, the place has now gone to wrack and ruin since then.

I lived in Pontywaun in the mid 90s and would hit XXXmph on my Kawasaki on that last section approaching the roundabout with the Sirhowy turn off. After rolling off the throttle down to 70 it felt like you could get off and jog alongside :) It was a beautiful sweeping road, very light on traffic and pretty much secluded, hidden from view. A lean into the roundabout, then a short blip up to the Cross Keys junction or more often up to the next one and double back through the village. Great roads. I think it was around 1991 that I first rode on that bypass so it would have looked quite like this. Amazing how quickly the trees grew up alongside the road over the years because by 1998 I remember it being fully wooded. Thanks Elliot for sharing this link!

Wow this video is the best thing I've watched in ages 😊 it's amazing seeing how it used to look especially where newbridge roundabout is now and those buildings just before Crumlin petrol station I never new about, that's crazy. Thanks for sharing this video it's absolutely brilliant 👍

This is mine and was my late fathers favourite plane. We were sat in his garden that day, chatting over a whiskey and then a shadow was cast on the garden, we turned to see what had caused it, XH558 appeared and flew straight over the top of us......fantastic.

In the 70’s my Scout group had close liaisons with the local ATC cadets. I was a telecoms engineer and managed to get a sound circuit from the Vulcan cockpit they had outside their hut into the hut. Great for training the airmen and ground crews of today.

I was on a temporary duty assignment with the USAF in Goose Bay Labrador babysitting 16 C130. I was on the flight line when I heard a strange aircraft above the overcast. I looked up and saw a Vulcan break cloud and land. He taxied right in front of me. Definitely one of the most beautiful aircraft ever made.

At the last display she flew for us here (Jersey, CI), I left my family and mates to move a little further forward on the hill for a better view, taking my beer with me. I found myself stood right next to a guy who couldn’t have been more of a polar-opposite to me. There’s me, drinking a lager, with my shaved head, swearing like a sailor with excitement l, and there’s this dude, a complete anorak (he was actually wearing a blue anorak) with the thick black-rimmed glasses, huge telephoto lens, you get the jist. After she passed us by, myself and this guy who I’d never met before (or since) looked at each other and we were both in tears, and without a word we both just hugged each other (getting teary-eyed just thinking about that moment), it was a somewhat difficult Ed but strangely beautiful thing. That’s how iconic Vulcan was, it didn’t matter what world you came from or what world you live in, we all felt the same, she had power over us and still holds a special place in our hearts, Thanks for sharing your video 🙂 🤝

When I saw this plane as a child growing up in the sixties I thought even as a child that we had achieved the extent of aircraft technology and nothing was ever going to surpass it.
