Excellent session. For the pressing drill what happens when the group in the middle wins it. Do they go to score and in which goal?
@PlanItCoach

Hi Justin, yes they go on to score in the closest goal as they would in a game.

Another tough one, but as a coach, I have found great success with a 1-3-2 formation in 7v7. Again, requires a lot of running for Left and Right Mid-fielders, but with very strong center midfielders and very strong center defenders, it becomes very powerful on both Offense and Defense. Pros and cons to it, for sure!

Thanks for the comment, Dominick. The 1-3-2 sounds interesting. Glad that's working for you.

@@PlanItCoach Thanks so much! Definitely give it a go in training sessions as well. One thing I have learned is that it is a formation that 'strains' all positions when playing a tough opponent. For development, it sure brought out confidence in the entire squad. Everyone has to contribute at every point on the field. When everyone begins doing this, the formation becomes lethal!

It's not really any different than playing with 3 in the back. I presume your outside midfielders have to get back to defend and become the the two fullbacks defensively? So when defending, you're a 3-1-2, when attacking, you're a 1-3-2, similar to the 3-2-1. In attack, a 3-2-1 can become a 1-4-1 or a 1-3-2

I think the central mid should play a more defensive role (almost like a third cb).

I think the cm, should go to be second striker sometimes and one of cb coming to cover central mid position.

Is this formation better than 2-3-1 for youth soccer team that are a mix of beginners and intermediate players?
@vickytang4055

I think this would be suitable for youth. LB and RB have to run a lot.

in my opinion 2-3-1 is a more offencive than defencive but as a player i think using 3-2-1 is more of a formation to use before half time as was also a very successful formation to use and when your in a tough spot its better to use dropback with that formation
