Hello! May i know, what do you do as a nurse (when you become one)? Is it mostly taking care / interacting with patients? Or mostly packing of medication or managing admin matters? Thanks!
@ashfeels6 ай бұрын
hello hehehe i love your qn,, firstly, nurses dont pack medication - thats the pharmacists job :') we give the meds to patients & call/order meds if the pharmacy doesnt supply it in time/we run out of the supply... i would say the roles differ if youre an enrolled nurse or a staff nurse. enrolled nurse is responsible for the activities of daily living (ADLs) of the pts,, basically basic care - ensure they eat their food, turn them every 2 hours to prevent pressure injuries from forming for those bed bound pts, charting their intake & output (what they eat, assisted feeding, NGT (nasogastric tube feeding etc, urine, vomit, feces, blood, wound drains etc) --> which means diaper changing, sponging and showering pts. they also check pts vital signs, transport pts and carry out any tasks that the staff nurse delegates to them. for me, ill be becoming a staff nurse, which is more of holistic management of the pt. we dont have the time to sit down and talk to the pt (imagine we have 12-16 pts) we listen to the handover from the previous shift and take note of any notable stuff, read the doctors ward rounds and carry out the tasks, serve medications routinely - oral and IV meds, escalate any changes/deteriorations in pt condition & discussing w doctors/ allied healthcare professionals (eg. vital signs alarming changes, pt suddenly vomit, become confused etc), check pts blood glucose levels and administer insulin if needed, perform wound dressings, talk to family members, write our report while assessing the pts condition ++++ etcetcetc hahhaha i would say for SNs, admin matters (phone calls, filling up checklists, writing report!!!) is like 30%, and 40% serving meds & carrying out dr instructions, 20% assessing pt condition holistically, 10% miscellaneous hahah if youre interested, perhaps you can intern / seek job shadowing opportunities / work as a basic care assistant :) hope this helps. do let me know if you have any other qns or curious about anything else - i may make a vid on this :) lmk

What a great video. What you're doing is what we call Patient Transport. Here they're staffed by non-paramedic (EMT equivalent) crews. Emergency ambulances are only crewed by Registered Paramedics, and many have graduated university with a Degree in Nursing as well as their Degree in Paramedicine. Best wishes in your career, and greetings from Australia.

hi! when you graduate you'll be able to put down your preference on which department to go to eg: med/surg ward, OT, A&E, ICU etc etc.. ofc, all these depends on the hospital you're going to. in sg, if you want to go into paeds/womens health then KKH is the best public hospital to go to since they specialise in that. likewise for other hospitals :) hope this helps!

@ashfeels Жыл бұрын
hello! yeap we do :'
@angstyotter67462 жыл бұрын
Are u not worried that you might break your bond with the hospital?
@ashfeels2 жыл бұрын
hi! yes i have thought about that before, and i concluded that the reasons i would break my bond are: 1. if i don't enjoy nursing anymore, 2. if i find nursing too stressful. there are many departments in a particular hospital that nurses can join. i can switch around the departments eg A&E, ICU, OT, ward nurse etc, and there are options for me to change my work timings to office hours (subject to availability), and i can work part time as a nurse at that hospital also, i just have to discuss with the hospital. i think the money that i need to payback if i break my bond is mostly why i think i wont break my bond; but i agree with you, 4 years to a specific hospital seems really long now, but I'm hopeful that during that 4 years, i will be able to brush up on my nursing skills and really get that experience. even if i wanted to switch to other hospitals or go private clinics etc, having 4 years hospital experience is quite solid i feel. and if i don't like the ward, I'm pretty sure i can request to change it after some time
