As much as I love American muscle cars, this video perhaps shows their utility in today's world. You wait a few minutes in a yard or at an intersection, then you go for a quick acceleration. It may be impressive, but it doesn't make much sense these days.

I was leaning on a car on my pals car sales lot chatting to him when a guy in an orange chevy malibu drag car,big blower, tube frame, unarguably open pipes, the lot! crept round the corner onto the slip road to the the dual carriageway, maybe thats not so unusual in the states but here in the UK such a thing is quite rare so it merited a good look,he spotted us, I gave him the thumbs up and the internationally known hand signal for give it some.He got about 20 foot in and at about 10 mph hit the gas and executed a perfectly straight smokey burnout down the road for a good 150 ft and overtook about 3 cars in the process😊,he must have been doing 90-100 mph by the end of the burnout then let off,let it hook up and then hit the gas again to disappear into the distance at a fair old lick. My pal the car dealer immediately said " Usually I dont like that kind of thing, but that was fkn impressive!".

I was born in July of 58. The cars, I drove , owned, raced, and saw. I miss the old muscle car days. First car at sixteen 65 Thunderbird. 390cu in. Not really a fast car, but had it up to 140mph.

I've been a Chevy guy forever but still think thats the sexiest muscle car that was ever made. But it must be the 69 no it can't be a 70 has to be the 69 fastback or all bets are off.

Back in the 70s (teens) my buddy had a Mach I (?) with a 429 all supped up for racing. We drove from SE Mass up thru New Hampshire and man was that fun. Little gas stations (6 m.p.g. +/-) for gas and people were staring at us like WTF? What a blast!

Want to make a budget 429? Get a 351 Windsor block and heads. Bore it .80 over, plane port and polish the heads, install roller cam/rocker set with at least .680 lift. Buy a crank 427 stroker piston/ crank set and a decent fuel direct injection system, and you're gonna be rocking 650 tq and hp easily. No blower or turbo necessary.

These muscle/pony cars with hige engines always sound like their engines are about to stop working and you have to add gas to sustain a fuel dosage
