Thanks for the video... I watched quite a few how-to videos on these ball joints, and yours is one of the best. Great job explaining everything! I just did mine yesterday, replacing the worn/noisy hubs and axles at the same time. I used the exact same press kit and it worked great, easily removing my 240,000 mile originals off my rust 04 rust belt Laredo. Thanks for mentioning that it is the kit you used...some people make it sound like you need a snap on one 😂 I ended up using the spicer ball joints since the forum guys don't recommend knurled unless necessary, but I did have those exact same Moogs on hand just in case

I'm going to do breaks in my Vulcan classic 800 in few days, however I'm wondering. Are you sure that put grease on the pins is good idea? I have impression that since, they are expoused, they can attract dust and dirt and this might cause friction on pads and uneaven wear. But maybe i'm wrong?

And just curious, did you show Honda Dealership how filthy the filter was and why their tech AND manual says we dont need to change it?! Im curious on what their response would be. Because if they dont have good explanation for it, its deceiving us and allows our transmissions to go bad so it can be replaced with out money. They should eat up the cost.
@caspertheghost626017 күн бұрын
By the way, why you use Honda DW-1 trans? I know thats recommended by Honda, but a lot i read in OdyClub they use Valvoline Maxlife and dislike Honda trans fluid. Any thoughts?
@caspertheghost626017 күн бұрын
No, dont trust them. Even mechanics when they say something that doesnt make sense especially when you already did some research. I went to the shop to have the mechanic just quickly verify if i am reading the trans dipstick right as i thought it was low as its on the first hole level......not above the 1st hole up to the 2nd hole. The first thing he did is turn on the vehicle and thats how he checked it and said oh you have too much trans fluid. As you can imagine the fluid was way above the 2nd hole to maybe a quarter of the dipstick. I read the van has to be off to check trans level. So now i dont trust him changing my trans fluid anymore as it might have problems. Thats why im here. But the filter change is a little tougher.

Flooded batteries are fine. I went through an Arizona summer just fine with a worn battery on a diesel. All you have to do is fill to the recommended fluid level every 1-6mo and put it on a battery tender overnight to top off. That should last you 5-7 years. It also helps if your insulate the battery from engine heat even with cardboard (provided it's somewhere it won't combust) and allow only the 120°F air to hit it.

Okay you showed how to do it but you didn't show how to put the adapters on the tool to get the ball joint out that's the most important part is what order do the parts go in on the handheld press. This is why I watch more than one video.

I'd like to just give some additional tips for anyone doing this in the future, coming from a professional mechanic 1. Flush the power steering system before you remove the box, if you remove the steering gear first, then point both lines from the cooler and pump into a catch pan 2. Remove the steering gear and push the tie rods out of the way, gives you more room to the front of the motor to get to the pump 3. Replace the power steering pump as shown in the video, if you don't replace the lines, and the reservoir, and the cooler, and the steering box, FLUSH THE SYSTEM BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE PUMP, this prevents contaminated fluid from getting into the new pump and steering gear. It's enough to remove the gas pump relay and turn over the engine for 10 cranks, giving a minute between each cycle to prevent overheating the starter. 4. The tools from OTC are the OEM tools for this job, they're worth the investment, it saves a lot of headache when removing the pitman arm on a bench from the gear, if it's even worth saving. The loaner tools from autozone are of equal quality and work pretty much just as well if you don't want to spend $200 in tools. 5. Bleeding power steering is as simple as filling the reservoir, letting it cavitate, gravity bleed, turn lock to lock 10ish times, hold at the bypass valve for a quarter of a second each cycle, have someone handy to refill the reservoir while you rotate the steering wheel. Do that like 5 or 6 times and you're golden, if it whines, add more fluid and do the process again. If it still whines, disconnect the hoses from steering box and flush the system as stated above.
